A bakery clerk is both a baker and a customer service representative. As a bakery clerk, your job duties include making baked goods such as bread, cakes, and cookies, interacting with customers, taking special orders, stocking the bakery, operating and cleaning equipment, and packaging and labeling bakery products. There are no formal qualifications needed for a career as a bakery clerk; on-the-job training is standard. However, you may wish to attend culinary school to advance your career. Once you gain skills and experience as a bakery clerk, you can pursue a pastry chef position.
