Position Summary:

This role will be responsible for supporting production by safely maintaining equipment to produce the highest quality. Diagnose and repair simple and complex manufacturing equipment issues and perform routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Perform basic mechanical adjustments like tensioning drive belts, conveyor belts, tracking belts and chains.
  • Works safely around moving equipment and conveyors in a wet environment
  • Be proficient in the use of standard hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, bearing pullers, etc.
  • Perform building mechanical repairs such as overhead door track and panel replacement, concrete work, and chain link repairs.
  • Change motors, pulleys, gear boxes and belting and basic welding skills
  • Perform simple plumbing repairs such as unclogging drains, replace faucets, and toilet repairs.
  • Troubleshoot simple mechanical systems such as chain drives and pumps.
  • Replace slicer, cutter, dicer blade assemblies and perform necessary adjustments.
  • Read piping diagrams and identify the function of various components for air and water distribution systems.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency repairs on all equipment and building structures (I.e. pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic electrical plumbing)
  • General knowledge of packaging production equipment (scales/baggers. Ability to PM this equipment on own.
  • Read and complete work orders, paperwork, specification books, schematics and manuals.
  • Read and rebuild pneumatic hoists, gearboxes, power drives, centrifugal pumps, and replace mechanical shaft seals
  • Install production equipment on elevated platforms.
  • Service and replace pressure and prox switches and photo eyes
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and program at a basic level the automated equipment such as automated scales and packaging machines.
  • Troubleshoot systems up to 480 volts with complicated electrical controls and wire 3 phase motors
  • Program Variable frequency drive (VFDs) and read electrical schematics and identify components. Program simple production equipment such as metal detectors and spin dryers.
  • Handle blade housing
  • Lock out/Tag out equipment as necessary
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as grinders, cut-off saws, power tools, ladders, etc.
  • Comply with SQF Regulatory Programs
  • Perform preventive maintenance and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience and basic mechanical skills
  • GED/High School Diploma Preferred Willingness and flexibility to work in a cold environment
  • Reading, Writing, Speaking English Preferred
  • Knowledge of GMPs & Safety Guidelines
  • Forklift and scissors lift safety
  • Use of fire extinguishers
  • OSHA, FDA, and GMP requirements
  • Cleaning and degreasing techniques
  • 24 volts to 480 volt electrical safety practices
  • Chain drive sprocket and gearbox ratios
  • Understand efficiencies and downtime
  • Equipment moving and installation
  • Hot-work permit requirements
