Job description

Location: Silver Bay, MN
Cleveland-Cliffs has immediate openings for Plant Operations Technicians at their Northshore Mining Company facility located at the Silver Bay Plant. The primary function of this position is to operate and maintain all plant equipment associated with the production of taconite pellets in a self-directed work environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Replacing idlers and scrapers.
  • Replacing oil pumps
  • Chute repairs
  • Minor plumbing
  • Cutting & welding
  • Repairing cyclones and pan feeders
  • Belt replacement
  • Minor pipefitting
  • Conveyor alignment
  • General clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a 2-year post-secondary degree or 4-year post-secondary degree, OR 4-year apprenticeship in related work, OR 4-years full-time military history with directly related work experience (Part-time military only considered if candidate has at least 2 years of full-time deployment with work experience applicable to position), OR 2 years of directly related full-time work experience. 2-year post-secondary degrees in mining industrial technology, electrical, industrial, mechanical, maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance is preferred.
  • Must be able to recognize upset conditions, determine cause, and then take corrective action.
  • Must be flexible with work assignments; will assist other departments as needed and required.
  • Must have an exceptional work ethic, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a self-directed team environment.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Work experience in an industrial environment is preferred.
  • Excellent safety record and genuine concern for safety in the workplace.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude.

The pay range for this role is $30.72/hour to $45.31/hour.
