Job description

NewsNation is looking for a segment/line producer to work on a daily news program. The Segment Producer is responsible for contributing story ideas, compiling elements, and crafting stories and segments on a variety of topics ranging from domestic to international news. This person also serves as a line producer in the control room as needed. The position is based in the network's Chicago offices.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Pitch stories and segments
• Identify top-tier guests and segments that help NewsNation stand out
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments
• Serve as a backup line producer by helping manage show rundowns, coordinating with control room staff, and overseeing the technical execution of the broadcast as needed, including calmly manage rundown shifts and editorial direction during rolling breaking news coverage
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Dataminr, YouTube, and other platforms
• Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Producer, Senior Producers, or network leadership
Skills & Experience:
• Five or more years' experience in national or major-market news
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in journalism or a related field
• Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, be effective communicators, be detail-oriented, be solid broadcast writers, and work well under deadline pressure
• Strong writing skills required
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead in a live control room environment.
• Ability to create dynamic graphics and video elements
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating, and able to work well with a diverse group of people
• Interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital, and engineering staff
• Excellent verbal, written, grammar, and analytical skills
• Exhibit strong news judgment
• Handle stress, including short deadlines
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings, and weekends/holidays
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 (commensurate with experience)
