Job description

Engineering Research Scientist (EE/RF background) (Location: California - near the cities of Carson, Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach, California) Job Description: Client is seeking an Engineering Research Scientist with a strong EE/RF background and technical proposal writing background to join the Engineering Team, which works on advancing cutting-edge technology for integration into advanced systems and platforms in the aerospace industry. Their research and development effort is focused on products that leverage a combination of sophisticated algorithms onto embedded electronics, including (but not limited to) RFICs, RFSoCs, SDRs, micro-controllers, and single board computers. The team that specializes in advancing concepts from proposed solution to technology production.

You will work alongside other experienced scientists and engineers to develop novel, cutting-edge solutions to several challenging problems. Understanding and experience with RF systems such as radar and/or communications and the requisite systems design, implementation and application, signal and digital signal processing (algorithms and hardware) are desired. This is a hands-on research and development position.

Objective: Working with the engineering team, this candidate will be writing technical proposals and solicitations to win new business and engineering-related projects. This candidate should have a strong technical writing background and extensive experience writing technical proposals involved in winning engineering-related projects, bids, and grants. This role also includes research activities, and preferably this candidate will have previous experience with creating Hardware and Electronics systems proposals.

Previous experience with communication components/system design, development,, and a background in RF and Electronics Engineering is highly desirable. A candidate who has been an engineer in the past and has transitioned to proposal writing to win new business is acceptable. A PhD is a MUST.

Responsibilities: Write proposals such as SBIR/BAA etc. Writing technical proposals to win new engineering-related business and projects. Lead the creation of new concept/architecture design, development, and implementation activities related to RF sensing and processing components/systems development including simulation and modeling, prototyping, and testing.

Apply experience in the use of RF design, programming, modeling/simulation tools to help develop new technologies. Work alongside engineering and research teams in researching, selecting, evaluating, and/or developing component/system and packaging with specific applications in mind. Lead/provide technical write-ups related to system, hardware, and software development for bids and proposals.

Requirements: PhD in Applied/Experimental Physics, or RF Engineering, or Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or related field. 5-8+ years’ experience in RF and communication components/system design, development, laboratory and field prototyping and implementation for RF applications (including years of post-doctoral study.) Experience in writing technical proposals to win new engineering-related business and projects. Experience using Ansys and microwave office Experience in radar algorithm development: Doppler processing, SAR, target classification, and AI/ML Good knowledge of analog and digital RF and communication systems and protocols.

Experience in developing hardware and prototyping Ability to contribute to development, analysis and troubleshooting of component/system performance. Desire to design experiments, assemble test setups, perform tests, analyze results, relate the results to goals/theory/predictions and make conclusions relevant to development. Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, achieving required results on time and on budget.

Ability to present technical concepts and designs to Senior Management and customers in clear and succinct form. Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills to prepare technical proposals and documentation. US citizenship or Green Card.
