Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
This is a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. The faculty member will be responsible for developing and delivering course content in business analytics, information systems, and information technology. The faculty member should have experience teaching first-generation and diverse students. Industry/professional experiences and certifications are desirable.
The University is on a journey to become a Research 1 (R1) institution. The faculty member will be responsible for continuously publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals while developing and delivering high-quality course content in business analytics, information systems, and information technology at the undergraduate and MBA levels, both on campus and online. In addition to carrying out impactful teaching and research, faculty member is expected to actively engage in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Faculty member is expected to engage with external partners and support grant and external funding opportunities.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 15,275 students in Fall 2025, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. The College of Business and Economics has a faculty of over 75 (65 tenured and tenure-track) who teach in the Departments of Accounting and Finance, Business Information Systems and Analytics, Economics, Management, and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Faculty are tasked with providing quality teaching and learning supported by relevant research and service. The student body consists of approximately 2,071 undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Business Information Technology, Economics, Finance, Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain Management. The Department of Business Information Systems and Analytics is one of five academic departments in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University, located in Greensboro, NC. North Carolina A&T State University is a 1890 land-grant
doctoral research-intensive university that prepares students to advance the human condition and facilitate economic growth in North Carolina and beyond by providing a preeminent and diverse educational experience through teaching, research, and scholarly application of knowledge.
The Department of Business Information Systems and Analytics (BISA) currently offers three degrees: BS in Business Information Technology (online and face-to-face), BS in Management Information Systems, and a BS in Business Analytics (face-to-face and approved for online). All three degrees are AACSB-accredited programs. The BISA department currently has nine full-time faculty, all of whom hold terminal degrees, and five part-time faculty.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Business/Data Analytics, Decision Sciences, Information Systems, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science or a closely related discipline from an AACSB accredited institution at the time of appointment.
Candidates should demonstrate the potential to establish a research record through publications in refereed journals, national and international conferences, book chapters, and other scholarly activities.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
A strong foundation in applying Information Technology and Analytics to business situations/applications is preferred. Candidates adept in the use of cloud-based tools to support instruction in a variety of areas, like programming, databases, etc., will be preferred.Candidates with professional experience in the Information Technology and Information Systems area and experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in IS/IT and Analytics are preferred.
Candidates should be academically qualified under SACS to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses offered by the Business Information Systems and Analytics department, primarily Information Technology, but also Information Systems and Analytics. Industry and professional certifications in the area of Information Systems/Technology and Analytics are encouraged.
A research pipeline illustrating potential with existing publications in related journals and grant potential.
Required License or Certification
None but industry certifications are valued.
