Job description

Purpose:

The Accounting Manager is a key member of the accounting team responsible for supporting the BaaS Assistant Controller and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Bank's financial records. This role manages critical accounting functions, including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal control activities related to the Bank's BaaS and core banking operations. The position works closely with cross-functional teams to support regulatory reporting, audits, process improvements, and strategic business initiatives. The Accounting Manager applies strong analytical and technical accounting skills to identify risks, resolve issues, and improve operational efficiencies. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving financial services environment.

Tasks:
  • Own the day-to-day financial accounting functions for BaaS partnership accounts, serving as a key resource for reconciliation and reporting matters.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations and identify key business and financial risks, maintaining the highest level of control environment to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data through validation and reconciliation controls.
  • Apply strong analytical skills and critical thinking to financial reporting and problem-solving.
  • Play a strategic role across the general ledger, journal entries, accounts receivable, account balances and reconciliations, and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Own the accurate and timely preparation of regulatory reports and other financial reporting as assigned, including support for SEC reporting requirements and disclosures.
  • Remain current with respect to GAAP, regulatory requirements, and financial disclosure requirements, bringing forward improvements and best practices.
  • Assist with regulatory examinations, external financial statement audits, and internal audits, helping resolve findings.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff, including assigning and reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
  • Support BaaS initiatives, add value, and champion the Bank's vision, core values, business principles, goals, and objectives.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed.
Must Have Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and embrace frequent change.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations, laws, guidelines, GAAP, accounting practices, and procedures.
  • Passion for using technology, data, and automation to solve operational problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Education / Experience / License:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience in banking and/or financial services.

  • Banking/FinTech accounting experience.
  • BaaS (Banking as a Service) experience, particularly with BIN (Card) Sponsorship and Payment Processing reconciliations.
  • Experience with coaching or managing an accounting staff.
  • Experience in Big 4 or top 10 public accounting firm.
Minimum Essential Requirements:
  • Sit or stand at a computer for extended periods of time and look at a computer screen for several hours a day.
