Job description

Overview Abacus Technology is seeking an OSP Technician to install, remove, and relocate common telephone systems equipment in support of Base Telecommunications System (BTS) for the Joint Base Charleston.  This is a full-time position. Responsibilities * Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cable to meet job requirements as specified in work order within time specified in contract work order priority.   * Perform cabling, power, grounding of various types of equipment and hardware using proper tools and safety practices.   * Perform various types of installations with minimal supervision using established quality and safety practices.   * Prepare cables, fiber or switchboard or power for terminations.   * Perform cabling, ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, cable and lead verification.   * Install, remove, or relocate various common telecommunication equipment. Qualifications 2+ years experience in installation of telephone systems equipment and cabling plant.   Must be BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) certified.   Experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting CAT 5e/6, ISP/OSP fiber optic cabling, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) data administration, analog phones, fiber connectors, and remote alarm systems.   Experience with copper and fiber optic cable splicing and testing.   Experience with point to point dry circuits.   Knowledge of manhole/hand hole, conduit, MaxCell, and fiber/copper cable installations.   Experience with trenching as well as operating backhoes and excavators.   Knowledge of DC power systems, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, established safety and quality practices.   Able to perform cabling, ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, cable and lead verification, use basic method of procedure for job species and drawings; ability to test and turn up various communications equipment.   Must be a US citizen.
