Job description

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Novi, Mi (On-site)

Contract to Hire

Rate: $60-70

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of Battery Management System (BMS) software for next-generation battery platforms. This individual will develop and deliver embedded software that meets customer requirements for performance, safety, security, and regulatory compliance, while supporting firmware integration, hardware-level debugging, and software validation activities. They will be partnering closely with systems, controls, validation, and battery testing teams as well as stakeholders to ensure the design and implementation is up to client standards.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Develop and maintain embedded software and firmware for Battery Management System (BMS) applications.
  • Configure and support base software modules managing battery monitoring, contactors, and hardware interfaces.
  • Work closely with validation, controls, systems, and application engineering teams throughout development.
  • Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools to debug software and hardware interactions.
  • Perform software verification, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Support compliance efforts related to functional safety and embedded software quality standards.
  • Participate in technical reviews, agile development processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Strong experience developing embedded software and firmware using C in production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN communication, embedded systems, and software debugging tools.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and laboratory equipment for signal analysis.
  • Understanding of RTOS, HAL/MCAL, bootloaders, and low-level embedded software concepts.
  • Experience with communication protocols including CAN, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, or Modbus.
