Lead Engineer

Location: Stamford, CT
Schedule: Monday – Friday with rotating on-call responsibilities

Position Summary of the Lead Engineer

The Lead Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of a Class A commercial office property occupied by a major corporate tenant. This position serves as the senior member of the engineering team, providing hands-on technical expertise while assisting the Chief Engineer with daily operations, preventative maintenance, vendor coordination, and team support.

The Lead Engineer works alongside the engineering staff to ensure building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably while maintaining a first-class environment for tenants. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a customer-focused approach to building operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Lead Engineer:
  • Perform, coordinate, and oversee the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all building systems, including:
    • HVAC and central plant equipment
    • Electrical distribution systems
    • Plumbing systems
    • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
    • Fire alarm and life safety systems
    • Emergency power and critical infrastructure
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in coordinating daily engineering operations and assigning work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical support to engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Lead by example by performing hands-on maintenance, repairs, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Respond promptly to tenant service requests while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct routine inspections of building systems and identify maintenance needs or opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors performing maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Assist with tenant improvement projects, construction activities, and after-hours work as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and life safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to building emergencies when required.
  • Promote a safe, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications of the Lead Engineer:
  • 5+ years of commercial building engineering experience, preferably within Class A office environments.
  • Previous experience serving as a senior engineer or informal team lead preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS, life safety, and commercial building systems.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple service requests while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Strong communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Chief Engineer and engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications of the Lead Engineer:
  • Connecticut D-1 or D-2 Operating Engineer License preferred.
  • EPA Universal Certification required or preferred.
  • Experience supporting Class A commercial office properties or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
