Job description

Job Summary

A leading precision manufacturing company in the Cedar Park area is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe - CNC 5-Axis Machinist to join its second shift team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining 5-axis CNC machining centers while producing tight-tolerance components. The ideal candidate has experience with CNC mills and lathes, can work independently, and is committed to producing high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Pay: $DOE
Schedule: Monday–Friday , 1ST OR 2ND SHIFT

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machining centers to produce precision components.
  • Perform first article inspections and make machine offsets or minor program adjustments as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, routers, and work instructions.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to inspect parts and verify tight tolerances.
  • Load and unload materials using overhead lifting equipment.
  • Deburr finished parts and ensure all components meet quality standards before moving to the next operation.
  • Monitor machine performance, identify machining issues, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Select and utilize the proper cutting tools, inserts, and tool holders.
  • Maintain production flow by following job priorities and production schedules.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Complete production documentation and follow all safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of CNC machining experience, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, or 5-axis machining.
  • Experience performing machine setups and tear-downs independently.
  • Strong understanding of G & M codes and CNC machining principles.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including:
    • Micrometers (OD/ID)
    • Dial indicators
    • Depth gauges
    • Profilometers
    • Groove micrometers
  • Ability to consistently hold tight tolerances (up to ±0.0005").
  • Basic math skills and knowledge of tooling, feeds, and speeds.
  • Strong attention to detail, accountability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and ability to identify and explain quality concerns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating Mazak 5-axis machining centers.
  • Experience with Mazak Integrex machines.
  • Previous mill and lathe machining experience.
  • Familiarity with Capto tool holders, turning tools, and cutting inserts.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, sit, bend, reach, and move throughout the shift.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.
  • Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Work safely in a manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE.
