Is AWS CCP certification worth IT?

The AWS CCP (AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner) certification is valuable for entry-level IT roles involving cloud computing, as it demonstrates foundational knowledge of AWS services and cloud concepts. It can improve job prospects and salary potential for roles such as cloud support associate, cloud administrator, or technical support specialist. However, its value depends on the specific job requirements and the individual's experience with cloud technologies.

What is an AWS CCP?

An AWS CCP, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, is an entry-level certification offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) that validates a basic understanding of cloud computing concepts, AWS services, security, pricing, and support. This certification is ideal for individuals who are new to cloud computing and want to demonstrate foundational AWS knowledge. It is often pursued by professionals in technical, managerial, sales, or finance roles who interact with cloud-based solutions. The exam does not require deep technical skills, making it accessible for beginners. Earning the AWS CCP can help boost your credibility and open up further learning opportunities in the AWS ecosystem.

What are some common challenges faced by AWS Cloud Certified Practitioners in their first few months on the job?

New AWS Cloud Certified Practitioners often encounter challenges such as adapting to rapidly changing cloud technologies and understanding their organization's specific AWS architecture. Navigating the wide range of AWS services and identifying the most cost-effective and secure solutions can be daunting initially. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, like developers and security specialists, is essential but may require learning new communication and project management skills. However, these experiences provide valuable learning opportunities and help practitioners build a solid foundation for career growth in cloud computing.

What jobs can I get with AWS CCP?

The AWS CCP (AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner) certification prepares individuals for entry-level cloud roles such as cloud support associate, cloud operations technician, or cloud administrator. These positions involve managing cloud environments, supporting cloud infrastructure, and assisting with deployment and security tasks using AWS tools and services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (AWS CCP), and why are they important?

To thrive as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, you need foundational knowledge of cloud computing concepts, AWS core services, billing, and security best practices, typically validated by earning the AWS CCP certification. Familiarity with the AWS Management Console, basic cloud architecture tools, and cost management platforms is important. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and a willingness to continually learn about evolving cloud technologies set top performers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring efficient cloud adoption, supporting business objectives, and facilitating collaboration between technical and non-technical teams.

Is AWS CCP difficult?

The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CCP) is considered an entry-level certification that covers fundamental cloud concepts, AWS services, security, and architecture. Its difficulty depends on prior knowledge of cloud computing and related technologies, but many candidates find it manageable with proper study and practice exams.

Job description

The Senior Restaurant Solutions Engineer (SE) is a key member of the Int'l Technology team serving as technical advisory and solutions provider to our Brand Partners globally. In this role, you will translate business needs into scalable, supportable technical solutions across a broad technology ecosystem. This is a broad solutions engineering role with responsibility across solution design, architecture, implementation, vendor collaboration, and ongoing partner success. You will help shape technical approaches, de-risk implementations, and improve visibility and operational readiness across the platforms and services that support the business. While experience in restaurant technology is helpful, it is not central to the role. We are looking for strong end-to-end solutions engineering capability, including architecture, integration design, observability, cloud-enabled platforms, implementation support, and cross-functional execution. A great SE is a collaborative and energetic relationship-builder with excellent communication skills, sound technical acumen and cultural competence. This person operates with core values as a foundation within the team and outwardly cross functionally. Accountability, transparency, and passion for learning and sharing knowledge with the team is always top of mind. The SE will coordinate with the product team and project managers on several aspects of the Brand Partner needs including new restaurant openings (NRO), new market entries (NME), and ongoing Brand Partner success. This role will be based at the Global Support Center in Dallas.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Translate business needs into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Lead solution design across systems, integrations, vendors, and operational workflows.
  • Create architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, integration plans, solution documentation, and related technical artifacts.
  • Identify requirement gaps early and align stakeholders before design and implementation begin.
  • Lead proof-of-concept efforts to validate technical approaches and reduce delivery risk.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities, technical maturity, and long-term fit.
  • Support implementation activities including system configuration, integration planning, testing, deployment, and post-launch support.
  • Partner with product, project management, vendors, and business stakeholders to improve delivery and ongoing solution effectiveness.
  • Help design and implement observability capabilities across applications, integrations, and cloud-connected services, including monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and tracing.
  • Support DevOps and cloud engineering practices that improve deployment reliability, environment readiness, automation, and operational visibility.
  • Contribute to incident readiness, root-cause analysis, support models, and performance monitoring standards.
  • Participate in peer and architecture reviews. Including knowledge-sharing across the team.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • 7+ years of experience in solutions engineering, systems engineering, technical consulting, platform engineering, or similar roles.
  • Experience designing technical solutions across multiple systems, platforms, vendors, and business workflows.
  • Strong understanding of integrations, APIs, data flows, infrastructure, databases, operating systems, and cloud-connected platforms.
  • Experience creating technical documentation and presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across application, integration, infrastructure, and vendor layers.
  • Experience supporting implementations and production environments.
  • Working knowledge of observability practices such as monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboards, and tracing.
  • Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, automation, deployment support, and operational readiness.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to move work from concept through completion.
  • Experience in restaurant, retail, hospitality, franchise, or other multi-site environments.
  • Familiarity with POS, digital ordering, payments, loyalty, CRM, web, or mobile platforms.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, New Relic, Dynatrace, ELK, or similar.
  • Experience with vendor evaluations, proof-of-concept planning, and architecture governance.
  • Familiarity with foundational certifications such as CompTIA, Cisco, or AWS CCP.
  • Experience with POS platforms such as NCR Aloha or Oracle Simphony, or other Retail POS systems
