Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Specialty Deposit RM is able to handle both client-facing business development responsibilities as well as portfolio management responsibilities.  This position’s function is to identify and bring new specialty deposit clients and be able to manage a portfolio of specialty deposit clients such as but not limited to Title & Escrow, Property Management, HOA, Retentions, Law Firms and QSF deposits.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Identify and bring new specialty deposit clients to the Bank.  Will have a specific goal set by their manager every year.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank and regulatory requirements with emphasis on best-in-class client service while adhering to timeframes that are required. 
  • Negotiate and structure the primary terms of the loan with the clients; circulate concept memo if needed prior to issuance of term sheet/LOI.
  • Work with designated underwriter, loan assistants and other loan support staff to prepare the Credit Commitment Report (“CCR”) for new loans, renewals, amendments and annual reviews.
  • Present each CCR to the requisite approval authority levels.  The finished CCR is the product of a team, but the Specialty Deposit Manager is ultimately responsible for the content. 
  • Work with loan assistants and loan support staff to ensure all necessary items needed for the closing of the loan are in process and well-managed.
  • Review loan documents, either internally prepared or by outside counsel, to ensure accuracy.
  • Review to ensure each credit is properly risk rated based on the Bank’s risk rating system.    
  • Review client accounts to identify, evaluate and determine the appropriate course of action on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss to the Bank.
  • Lead the development of potential new specialty deposit client relationships with established escrow companies, lead the dialogue with the clients, maximize cross-sell opportunities and reinforce long term relationships. 
  • Lead the strategic dialogue with specialty deposit clients, bringing in added value ideas originated internally. 
  • Interact with the Underwriting Department and Credit Administration to successfully obtain the appropriate approvals. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners. 
  • Act as an effective first line of defense to filter risks and avoid unwanted exposure. 
  • Conduct due diligence calls or visits where appropriate. 
  • Prepare concept memos for new opportunities which identify risk and provide credit analysis. Articulate a convincing case in support of the risk opinion.
  • Prepare various portfolio analytical reports and presentations; stay connected with industry trends and macro issues which may impact the portfolio; recommend changes or action impacting specific clients or groups of clients.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • U.S. College graduate with major in related fields.

Experience:

  • AVP 5-7 years/ 7-10 years of commercial lending and banking experience with thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Must possess strong loan negotiation (rates, terms, collateral requirements) experience.
  • Must possess previous underwriting experience in the requisite area of commercial lending.

Skills/Ability:

  • Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements and loan servicing.
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services and have demonstrated ability to cross-sell such products.
  • PC proficient.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) a plus but not required.  
  • Ability to work well independently to structure loans and/or lines of credits.  
  • Must be organized and detail oriented and able to multi-task.  
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high production and team environment.  
  • Excellent time management skills and be accustomed to working with deadlines.  
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

$100,000 – $126,600 / year
Pay determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
