AVP, Small Business Banking Relationship Manager – Mohawk Valley

The Small Business Banking Relationship Manager works with the Commercial Lending Team to manage and develop the small business banking client base. This position is responsible for the skillful management of small business client’s banking needs. The incumbent is responsible for business development, commercial loan origination, portfolio management, and building and maintaining strong client relationships while ensuring sound credit quality and compliance with bank policies. 

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in commercial lending with the ability to analyze, package and present prospective financing opportunities to senior leadership and credit. A minimum of 3+ years’ experience managing business relationships and 5+ years sales experience as a Relationship Manager and/or Branch Manager or equivalent role preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Small Business Banking Relationship Manager works with the Commercial Lending Team to manage and develop the small business banking client base. This position is responsible for the skillful management of small business client’s banking needs. The incumbent is responsible for business development, commercial loan origination, portfolio management, and building and maintaining strong client relationships while ensuring sound credit quality and compliance with bank policies. 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Achieve established production goals related to small business loan growth, deposit acquisition, treasury management services, and overall portfolio profitability.
  • Develop & maintain strong network of business contacts, centers of influence, community leaders and other referral sources in order to develop new business and generate revenue.
  • Proactively identify, solicit, and develop new small business lending opportunities with business clients across targeted market segments.
  • Work closely with other business lines to deliver an excellent customer experience, and drive value to the customers that we serve. 
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis and cash flow assessment to evaluate credit opportunities and identify appropriate financing structures. 
  • Prepare and present credit memorandums, loan presentations, and recommendations for approval by senior management and credit committees.
  • Structure and negotiate small business loan transactions within established lending policies, procedures, and risk parameters.
  • Partner with Treasury Management, Retail Banking, Mortgage, Wealth Management, and other internal business lines to deliver comprehensive financial solutions and enhance client relationships.
  • Ensure & uphold operational integrity across the organization by complying with all regulations, policies, and procedures.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge of credit, financial analysis techniques & lending policy, with ability to package and present credit deals to leadership & credit team. Well demonstrated understanding of loan risk factors is a plus.
  • Proven track record of Business Development and Commercial loan origination.  Proven relationship management skills with demonstrated capabilities in managing and growing a sales pipeline, fostering COI relationships & referral sources, and developing new business relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of business banking, client profitability (PGS), commercial lending & cash management products; possess a general understanding of operations. (audit, compliance, fraud, loss, risk).


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3+ years’ experience managing business relationships; 5+ years of sales experience as a Relationship Manager and/or Branch Manager or equivalent role.
  • Commercial lending experience, with ability to analyze, package and present prospective financing opportunities to senior leadership & credit.
