What Will You Be Doing?

The Specialist, Safety Management System (SMS) provides oversight of Frontier’s SMS program and leads cross-functional coordination with operational departments to ensure effective implementation of SMS policies, procedures, and practices. The role also supports the Sr. Manager, SMS/IEP in interfacing with regulatory authorities

Essential Functions

  • Support the Safety Assurance process by coordinating cross-functional efforts across Frontier to maintain and enhance the overall SMS program (40%)
  • Co-chair SMS Working Groups and regularly present findings and insights to leadership on a weekly and monthly basis (20%)
  • Partner with the Sr. Manager SMS/IEP and departmental leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives, document processes, procedures, and controls, and maintain SMS policies and manuals (10%)
  • Assist in conducting Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) and maintaining SMS data systems and databases (10%)
  • Audit SMS compliance and report findings to the Sr. Manager, SMS/IEP (5%)
  • Promote a strong safety culture through company-wide Safety Promotion initiatives (5%)
  • Interface with the FAA regarding SMS approvals, compliance requirements, and corrective action plans (5%)
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Sr. Manager, SMS/IEP (5%)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • 1 to 3 years’ work experience at a Part 121 air carrier preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within a Safety Management System (SMS) framework
  • Thorough understanding of 14 CFR Part 5

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and ICAO ISARPs
  • Knowledge of Safety Management System requirements, policy/program development, risk management, safety assurance, safety reporting, and safety promotion
  • Excellent writing skills, including manual writing, report writing, and correspondence with government agencies
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including strong data manipulation skills and working knowledge of lookup functions, pivot tables, and dashboard development
  • Ability to deliver formal, in-person presentations to both small and large audiences, including effectively advocating for cultural and organizational change
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to take on evolving responsibilities, including tasks outside the defined scope of the role
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
