Refining communication across the globe – our clientele spans from domestic to international, encompassing both commercial and government sectors, showcasing our adaptability to diverse communication needs worldwide. Viasat is looking for a creative, bright, and innovative Technical Program Manager to work at the forefront of what makes us successful. This is an outstanding opportunity to collaborate with our dedicated engineers in developing and supporting technology programs within Viasat's Aviation business.

This Technical Program Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of software delivery requests from Commercial and Business Aviation customers from inception through Entry Into Service, including requirements gathering, planning, development and delivery. You will have experience working with a variety of engineering teams (system architects, software, integration, and test), handling schedule and performance risk, meeting commitments and anticipating and mitigating problems. In addition, you will be developing stakeholder relationships and working effectively with various functional areas within the company. You will be leading, directing, and motivating cross-discipline teams across multiple organizations and geographic sites.

The Program Manager will build effective relationships with business, engineering development teams, product management teams and project stakeholders to help facilitate the execution of software delivery projects / programs and to improve end to end operational efficiency of engineering domains. This is a one-to-many role responsible for consistent, predictable delivery waves across the global account base.

The Program Manager must have a foundational knowledge of theories, practices and procedures related to Program/Project management. The PM must be able to apply knowledge and skills to complete their assigned work autonomously with minimal direction. The ideal candidate has a background in Program/Project management, systems engineering or software development, Scrum/Agile and a mindset centered around critical thinking.

The day-to-day
  • Build and maintain software product delivery plans that span all aviation accounts and timelines
  • Host stakeholder planning and review meetings for all aviation account’s delivery items
  • Work with Product Management to develop cross-domain delivery item prioritization
  • Manage andmaintaindelivery requirements across intake and development tools (e.g., JIRA, Monday.com)
  • Ensure requirements are normalized, validated and clear with Business, Product, Engineering, and partners
  • Work with Engineering, Operations, and Partner teams to track and regularly report on delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and success metrics for all delivery items to drive cross-team alignment and accountability
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, delays, and blockers - driving mitigation plans and escalating effectively when needed
  • Capture lessons learned from each delivery wave and implement continuous improvement
What you'll need
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience in Project Management focused on software development
  • 4+ years experience as a software or systems engineer on product development projects
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, lead and report project level milestones, risks, issues, and decisions
  • Extensive problem-solving skills, and ability to drive resolutions to closure
  • Demonstrated ability understanding sophisticated systems at a system architectural level
  • Ability to lead project communications internally to teams/partners/leadership and externally to customers
  • Understanding and experience with project management methodologies and standard processes
  • Experience working within Agile Development Frameworks
  • Experience handling project scope and deliverables, including change control methodologies
  • Experience with commercial or business aviation industry preferred
  • Experience with scaled Agile implementation preferred

Salary range

$120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually
