Elk Grove Village, Illinois (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking a leader with hands-on experience as our next Benefits/Risk Coordinator.
The Office of Human Resources (HR) is a division of the Village Manager's Office. Staff within HR are the stewards of the Village's greatest strategic asset and are responsible for championing a unified and dedicated workforce. Areas of focus for the Office of Human Resources include strategic talent management; onboarding and professional development; compensation and benefits administration; employee recognition and engagement; personnel records and data integrity; employee and labor relations; and regulatory compliance and policy implementation.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Benefits/Risk Coordinator administers the Village's employee benefits and risk management programs. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employee benefits, workers' compensation, and risk management activities, including claims administration, insurance coordination, regulatory compliance, and safety programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Administers the Village's employee benefits programs for active employees and retirees, including enrollments, qualifying life events, claims assistance, annual open enrollment, separations, and serving as the primary liaison with benefit vendors.
  • Coordinates and processes workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability/collision, fire/casualty, and other risk management claims by reviewing, investigating, documenting, monitoring, and assisting with the resolution of claims, including litigation involving self-insured risk claims.
  • Establishes, maintains, and secures confidential employee injury records, workers' compensation files, litigation documents, and all required federal and state reporting and compliance records.
  • Prepares reports and documents for renewal of the Village's Benefits and Risk insurance including compiling underwriting information, completing annual underwriting questionnaires, analyzing loss data, and coordinating with insurance brokers and third-party administrators.
  • Analyzes claims trends, loss data, and benefit utilization to identify opportunities for cost containment, risk reduction, and continuous improvement of benefits, wellness, and risk management programs.
  • Partners with departments to promote workplace safety by participating on the Village's Loss Prevention Committee, reviewing accidents, developing recommendations, assisting with safety training, conducting loss prevention activities, and supporting OSHA compliance and annual reporting requirements.
  • Assists employees and supervisors with Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), special leave administration, workers' compensation coordination, and other leave-related processes.
  • Records, tracks, and monitors information related to claims, incidents, benefits administration, and other Human Resources activities, escalating matters requiring supervisory review.
  • Provides exceptional customer service by responding to employee, retiree, department, and vendor inquiries in a professional, timely, and confidential manner while fostering positive working relationships throughout the organization.
  • Performs various administrative and office support duties and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: A Bachelor's Degree in business administration, public administration, human resources management or a related field is preferred. Along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in benefits and risk administration and compliance.
