We are currently seeking a Managing Engineer with expertise in ADAS, and/or AVs for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in our Phoenix, AZ; Natick, MA; or Menlo Park, CA office. In this role, you will work as part of a team executing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance (e.g., emissions; fuel economy; noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH); drivability; acceleration; etc.); federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products. You will have the opportunity to ultimately develop your own consulting practice and grow professionally within Exponent.


  • Managing projects from initiation to completion; communicating project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff; ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product; and identifying business development opportunities
  • Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice by generating new business and projects
  • Developing and managing client relationships
  • Managing, mentoring, and providing project work for junior consulting staff
  • Handling project and cost management on casework
  • Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations
  • Continuing to develop specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology

  • Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Ability to leverage industry connections to generate new business and projects 
  • Manage and foster strong client relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands-on skills
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above, total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.


USD $190,000.00 - USD $220,000.00 /Yr.
