Job description

Position Summary This is position works under general supervision and performs unskilled work, assisting mechanics in the repair and preventative maintenance of a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment. The employee is expected to plan his/her work and make decisions within established policies and procedures. This position requires reliability, dependability, and accountability in all aspects of the defined role.

The employee in this position will work Tuesday through Friday from 11: 00 AM to 7:30 PM and Saturday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Essential Functions & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Assist with repairs and preventative maintenance on Solid Waste equipment with main focus on trailers. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Complete assigned task in a timely manner. Clean equipment with pressure washer. Assist mechanics with repairs whenever circumstances require physical help.

May be required to pick up and deliver repaired parts, supplies and equipment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Ability to communicate sufficiently with the general public, peers and superiors to respond to inquiries and make entries on reports and records.

Ability to operate automotive equipment, such as cars, vans and light trucks: (standard transmissions). Ability to use common tools. Ability to do basic math and calibrate tools and equipment and use diagnostic tools and software to operate an electronic engine diagnostic tool.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses The ideal candidate possess the education and experience listed below A minimum of eighth grade education.

Two years related experience and/or training in the automotive field. Any combination of experience, education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. CERTIFICATES AND LICENCES Class E Florida Driver License required.

Must have tools of the trade (socket set up to inch drive, screwdrivers, misc. hand tools). Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

This position works outdoors, and the employee is routinely subject to extreme heat, wet and humid conditions, loud noises, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock. On rare occasions, the employee will work indoors and be exposed to high precarious places.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to climb on and off heavy trucks and large type heavy off-road equipment. The employee is routinely required to operate equipment and stand, walk, talk, hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is also routinely required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, lift, and smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and on rare occassion,100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
