Fisher Construction & Excavating is a family-owned trucking and heavy civil excavating company serving East-Central Indiana. We specialize in civil construction earthwork and dump truck/hauling services, and we're growing our shop team to keep our fleet of trucks and heavy equipment running strong. We're hiring for three positions — whether you're a seasoned diesel tech ready to run a shop, an experienced mechanic looking for steady work, or someone just starting out and eager to learn a trade, we want to hear from you.

1. Shop Manager DIESEL Mechanic

Location: Losantville, IN   |   Type: Full-Time

Lead our maintenance shop and keep our dump trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment fleet in top condition. This role combines hands-on wrenching with shop leadership.

Responsibilities

•       Oversee day-to-day shop operations, workflow, and scheduling of repairs/maintenance

•       Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and drivetrains on trucks and heavy equipment

•       Manage preventive maintenance program and DOT compliance/inspections

•       Order parts, manage inventory, and control shop costs/budget

•       Supervise and mentor service mechanics and helpers

•       Coordinate with operations/dispatch to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime

•       Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment

Qualifications

•       10+ years of diesel/heavy equipment mechanic experience, including diagnostic and repair work on trucks and construction equipment

•       Prior lead, foreman, or shop management experience preferred

•       Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA maintenance requirements

•       CDL a plus, not required

•       Own hand tools

•       Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills

2. Service Mechanic

Location: Losantville, IN   |   Type: Full-Time

Perform routine and repair maintenance on our dump truck fleet and heavy construction equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.), both in the shop and in the field.

Responsibilities

•       Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on trucks and heavy equipment

•       Diagnose and repair engine, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues

•       Perform field service calls/roadside repairs as needed

•       Complete accurate maintenance and repair records

•       Follow all safety procedures and DOT standards

Qualifications

•       5+ years of diesel or heavy equipment mechanic experience

•       Working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems

•       Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)

•       Own basic hand tools

•       Willingness to travel to job sites for field repairs as needed

3. Entry-Level Mechanic / Shop Helper

Location: Losantville, IN   |   Type: Full-Time

No experience? No problem. This is a great opportunity to learn the diesel/heavy equipment trade from experienced mechanics while working on a real fleet of trucks and construction equipment.

Responsibilities

•       Assist mechanics with repairs, maintenance, and inspections

•       Perform basic maintenance tasks: oil changes, greasing, fluid checks, tire checks

•       Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe
