Job description

This position requires the individual to cultivate and develop strong, mutually-beneficial business relationships with end-customer decision makers, influencers and stakeholders who influence and direct the purchase of products and solutions within the field of industrial automation.

  • Success in this role comes from building trusted, long-term relationships with key decision makers across your territory โ€” understanding their operational priorities deeply enough to position Emerson and John H. Carter solutions before a formal need is declared. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who manages a broad portfolio of active opportunities with urgency and precision, stays ahead of industry and technology trends without being prompted, and represents John H. Carter's Total Customer Commitment standard in every customer interaction. Strong organizational skills, personal accountability, and a drive to grow the business are essential.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential for this position.
  • Understand each customerโ€™s Critical Success Factors (CSF), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), key initiatives and desired financial and operational business outcomes, and utilize that knowledge to promote and position Emerson and John H. Carterโ€™s portfolio of products, solutions and commercial offerings.
  • Maintain a high degree of industry knowledge and awareness including: trends, technology advancement, significant accomplishments by others in the business, state of the competition, and significant events related to John H. Carter Company and end-customerโ€™s businesses.
  • Provide leadership and ownership of assigned Emerson Program and John H. Carter accounts across a defined territory.
  • Present and demonstrate product capabilities and the implementation of workflow processes governing project and service execution.
  • Understand and navigate the Emerson organization and its ability to support sales efforts.
  • Understand the John H. Carter Companyโ€™s key strengths and weaknesses when compared to the competition.
  • Provide sales leadership to expand the business including preparing, maintaining and following account lifecycle plans with established installed-base customers.
  • Promote, sell and renew annual lifecycle service agreements.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals.
  • Provide direct responsibility for crafting and presenting the value proposition of a solution and verify that the solution meets the customersโ€™ vision and application.
  • Support recurring activities such as regular cadence calls, both internal, with Emerson, and with customers.
  • Maintain records of active opportunities within Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform Salesforce throughout the opportunity lifecycle.
  • Ability to travel via vehicle or airplane to corporate and manufacturing sites and facilities as required.
  • Limited overnight travel as required.
  • Manage expenses within budgetary constraints.
  • Follow company policies, procedures and methodologies.
  • Understand and ensure that John H. Carter TCC (Total Customer Commitment) standards are upheld.

QualificationsEducationRequired

Bachelors or better in Engineering or related field.

Preferred

ExperienceRequired

Basic business acumen

Proven track record and successful history of achieving goals and sales targets.

Proven sales record with commercial and technical experience in similar industries.

5 years:

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Visio.

Preferred

Experience in Emerson or competing Industrial Automation platforms

Experience in Salesforce CRM or equivalent.
