Job Overview

The HUS Segment Automation Engineer is responsible for assessing, designing, installing, documenting, and troubleshooting automation equipment for new and existing manufacturing processes. This role partners closely with product design, project management, and manufacturing teams to improve production capacity, product quality, and overall plant efficiency through automation solutions.

The position also collaborates with automation engineers across Hubbell to recommend technical advancements that support company objectives and maximize productivity.

A Day In The Life
Automation & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to implement automation through collaboration with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing teams
  • Lead automation equipment projects from concept through sustainment, including specification, vendor management, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, and debugging
  • Design and implement process improvement projects to increase efficiency, capacity, and product quality
  • Develop, maintain, and update technical documentation including procedures, drawings, schematics, and databases
Manufacturing Operations Support
  • Develop and sustain longrange automation improvement plans
  • Train and guide employees on automation processes and control methodologies
  • Develop and update procedures and training materials for setup and maintenance personnel
Project Management
  • Provide leadership and clear communication across project teams
  • Ensure project objectives, responsibilities, timelines, and budgets are clearly defined and met
  • Support system design decisions by providing technical input on automation capabilities
Technical Responsibilities
  • Support automation system architecture, including motion control configuration, tuning, data collection, and safety requirements
  • Interface with mechanical and electrical teams to ensure proper system integration

  • Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience developing and implementing automation equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Handson experience with PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, sensors, and industrial instrumentation
  • Experience with motion control technologies including VFDs, servos, robotics, and related programming tools
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment reliability, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines
  • Strong communication, organization, and timemanagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
