Your opportunity:
As an Automation Engineer I/II for Greenheck Group you will design, program, assemble, and install electrical controls used in machines and tooling systems. Support the Automation and Controls team with their projects, as well as providing post machine installation troubleshooting and support. Responsible for intermediate - advanced programming each of the following: HMI, PLC, Robot, Vision.
What you'll be doing as a Level I:
  • Project manage small to medium sized machine installations including:
  • Build and wire electrical panels
  • Create electrical schematics and electrical cabinet layout using AutoCAD electrical
  • Order parts for projects using Ariba Purchasing system
  • Wire external machine components to electrical cabinet
  • Use manufacturer's software to develop BOMs
  • Work with IT Application developers with program integrations
  • Travel to Greenheck facilities to install machines and train maintenance and manufacturing personnel
  • Support automation and controls technicians with their projects
  • Provide parts lists with standard components used
  • Research safety devices appropriate for their application
  • Provide programming assistance
  • Develop electrical parts list for the project
  • Write PLC/HMI/Robot Programs using various software packages
  • Typical programs would be low complexity machine control to medium complexity machine control
  • Design low to medium complexity machine guarding strategies that comply with OSHA and ANSI standards, to ensure the safety of our Greenheck teammates
  • Power up, troubleshoot, and commission machine to make production ready
  • Integrate hydraulic and pneumatic systems into the machine electrical control system
  • Post machine installation troubleshooting and support

What you'll be doing as a Level II:
60% of the time
  • Project manage medium sized machine installations including:
  • Specify power requirements and locations
  • Request network connections and configurations
  • Disconnect machine at machine development center (MDC) and reconnect in the final location
  • Coordinate tasks with IT, maintenance, mechanical designers, etc.
  • Train maintenance personnel and automation and controls technicians
  • Participate in preventative maintenance events as needed
  • Travel to Greenheck locations to complete machine installs as efficiently as possible, at times with little notice

25% of the time
  • Create electrical schematics and electrical cabinet layout using AutoCAD electrical
  • Write PLC/HMI/Robot Program using over 50 manufacturer software packages
  • Typical programs range from medium complexity coordinated motion programs using complex calculations, to the simple machine control
  • Build and wire electrical panels

10% of the time
  • Use manufacturer's software to develop BOMs
  • Travel to Greenheck facilities to install or repair machines and train maintenance and manufacturing personnel
  • Perform design calculations to determine component sizing, overload protection, motor sizing, wire sizing, and circuit sizing
  • Draw sheet metal parts with AutoCAD
  • Work with application engineers at external control manufacturers for advanced programming solutions
  • Continuously be up to date with NEC standards, documents (CUL, CSA, UL, NEC, NFPA 70e, IEC) to support all Greenheck CNC machines and robots
  • Offer advanced troubleshooting services on CNC machines
  • Contact control manufacturers when necessary
  • Write robot programs for new products
  • Work with business units to create and modify programs that make robotic welding programs and CNC programs more efficient, more operator friendly, and have better parts traceability
  • Support machines built by outside manufacturers
  • Integrate purchased machines to MDC machines or to other purchased machines
  • Investigate and install monitoring equipment on purchased machines
  • Modify purchased machines to comply with company safety standards

5% of the time
  • Develop electrical parts list for the project
  • Order parts for projects using Ariba purchasing system
  • Wire external machine components to electrical cabinet
  • Design medium complexity machine guarding strategies that comply with OSHA and ANSI standards, to ensure the safety of our Greenheck teammates
  • Work with IT Application developers with program integrations
  • Code machines for SAP integration
  • Power up, troubleshoot, and commission machine to make production ready
  • Integrate hydraulic and pneumatic systems into the machine electrical control system
  • Post machine installation troubleshooting and support
  • Support product development engineers with new products and field problems
  • Interpret NEC violations flagged by field inspectors
  • Support new product development so that the product meets NEC standards
  • Assist with specifying electrical components to be installed on Greenheck products
  • Support product development engineers with field problem installation and troubleshooting, following NEC, NFPA, and UL standards for compliance
  • Support automation and controls technicians with their projects
  • Provide parts lists with standard components used
  • Research safety devices appropriate for their application
  • Provide programming assistance
  • Upgrade existing MDC machines
  • Retrofit old control systems with new ones
  • Add new safety devices to meet current safety standards
  • Add new functions-features to old machines that are needed to produce new products
  • Work with business units to add features that allow for better data collection
  • Mentor less experienced technicians and engineers

What you should have as a level I:
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience required.
  • 4 Year / bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering required.

Preferred skills/ Certifications:
  • AutoCAD Electrical Drafting software
  • Basic Motion Programming
  • OSHA 1910 or NFPA 70E Safety Training
  • Industrial Control Safety Standards
  • National Electrical Code basic knowledge

What you should have as a level II:
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • 2 Year / associate degree in Electromechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent years of job experience required.
  • 4 Year / bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering preferred.
