Tool & Die Designer

Location: Mendota Heights, MN

Department: Engineering / Tool & Die

Type: Full-time

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Tool & Die Designer, you’ll play a key role in designing and developing tooling that supports our manufacturing processes. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, production, and toolroom teams to ensure tools and dies are designed for quality, efficiency, and performance while meeting customer and production requirements.

A Day in the Life:

  • Design and develop tool and die concepts based on manufacturing needs, customer specifications, and production volumes
  • Create detailed blueprints, 3D models, and flat blank geometry using SolidWorks/LogoPress (Cadkey a plus)
  • Design punch press tooling ranging from temporary stage tooling to complex progressive dies with sensors and automation
  • Build and test prototypes to verify functionality, quality, and design intent
  • Review customer drawings, CAD files, RFQs, and specifications to ensure designs meet requirements and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with programmers, EDM, CNC, press brake, quality, and toolroom teams to support production
  • Select appropriate materials to balance durability, cost, and performance
  • Oversee tooling fabrication, approve requisitions, and support troubleshooting efforts
  • Modify designs based on testing, customer feedback, or engineering clarifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation for designs, testing, and production specifications

You’re a Great Fit If You:

  • Have 5–7 years of experience in tool & die design within a manufacturing environment
  • Are proficient in SolidWorks/LogoPress and skilled in reading blueprints with GD&T
  • Understand manufacturing processes such as machining, stamping and laser cutting
  • Bring strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Are detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects
  • Communicate clearly with cross-functional teams and customers
  • Value safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent education and experience, including a high school diploma with a technical degree.
  • Hands-on experience with tooling design, prototyping, and production support
  • Knowledge of materials selection, tooling components, and manufacturing methods
  • Hands-on experience building dies

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move frequently throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Good vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity for detailed design and inspection work

Why Work With Us?

Join a collaborative manufacturing environment where your designs directly impact production success. We offer a stable workplace, opportunities to grow your technical expertise, and the chance to work on innovative tooling solutions that support precision manufacturing.
