Job description


Hoffman Construction is seeking a BIM Modeling & Detailing Lead to serve within the VDC Department. This position reports directly to the Affiliate VDC Manager and VDC Director.
The ideal candidate is a skilled, detail-oriented modeler with a strong work ethic and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. This role is primarily focused on supporting Hoffman's self-perform divisions: encompassing concrete, rebar, mass timber, wall framing, drywall, and specialty architectural scopes; through the creation and management of 3D models, production of shop drawings, active participation in multi-trade BIM coordination, and direct contribution to project planning efforts. The BIM Modeling & Detailing Lead will serve as a critical link between design intent and field execution, with a consistent emphasis on constructability and model accuracy.
This position is located on-site in Portland, OR.
Salary: $65,000 - $110,000 DOE
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage LOD 400 fabrication-quality 3D models across assigned self-perform scopes.
  • Produce accurate shop drawings for field use, interpreting design documents (drawings, models, specifications, etc.) to inform fabrication models and construction details.
  • Manage 3D models to support quantity take-offs (QTOs) and material tracking.
  • Collaborate with field crews to deliver visualizations, validate constructability, and advance model-to-field workflows.
  • Review the construction schedule and develop logistics plans and 4D animated exhibits in support of field coordination.
  • Facilitate and lead coordination meetings between the project team and third-party modeling firms.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings with project teams, clients, architects, consultants, and subcontractors; actively manage issue tracking and drive resolution through the GC's coordination platform.
  • Meet regularly with the project team to provide updates on VDC activities and upcoming deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of model asset libraries, including standard families and reusable details.
  • Support the integration of emerging VDC technologies into project workflows and construction planning.
  • Promote a culture of virtual building among internal teams and external project stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental research and development initiatives.
  • Conduct site visits to support the project team as needed.

Professional Experience and Education:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in architectural, engineering or construction (AEC) industry.
  • Experience in the delivery of large, complex projects is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Bachelor of Architecture, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent craft level work experience.

    • Vision: Close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment required for both screen-based and outdoor environments.
    • Hearing: Must tolerate proximity to loud equipment; hearing protection required as needed. Regular communication with colleagues and customers in office, site, and digital meeting settings.
    • Speech: Must communicate plans, protocols, directives, and SOPs related to project scope clearly in English.

    • Must hold a valid driver's license and safely operate a vehicle.
