What is auto finance?

Auto finance refers to the process of obtaining funds to purchase a vehicle, usually through a loan or a lease. In auto finance, a lender provides the money needed to buy a car, which the borrower then repays over time with interest. This can be arranged through banks, credit unions, car dealerships, or specialized auto finance companies. Auto financing options can vary based on credit history, down payment, loan term, and interest rates, making it important to compare offers before making a decision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in auto finance, and why are they important?

To thrive in Auto Finance, you need a solid grasp of financial analysis, credit evaluation, and industry regulations, often supported by a degree in finance, accounting, or business. Familiarity with loan origination systems, credit scoring tools, and relevant certifications such as NAF Association certifications are typically required. Strong negotiation, attention to detail, and customer service skills help professionals excel in client interactions and problem-solving. These abilities are vital for accurately assessing creditworthiness, managing risk, and maintaining customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

How does an auto finance professional typically collaborate with car dealerships and lending institutions?

Auto Finance professionals frequently act as intermediaries between car buyers, dealerships, and lenders. They work closely with dealership sales teams to structure financing options that fit customers' needs while ensuring compliance with lending regulations. Additionally, they communicate with banks and credit unions to negotiate interest rates, secure loan approvals, and clarify terms, making strong relationship management and negotiation skills essential for success in this role.

What is the difference between Auto Finance vs Auto Loan Specialist?

Auto Loan Specialists primarily assist customers in applying for and securing auto loans, often working directly with clients at dealerships. While both roles require knowledge of credit and loan products, Auto Finance roles tend to involve more financial analysis and deal structuring, whereas Auto Loan Specialists focus on customer service and application assistance.

How to get into auto finance?

To enter auto finance, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related fields. Relevant skills include customer service, sales, and knowledge of financing products; obtaining industry certifications can also improve prospects. Entry-level positions often require sales experience and familiarity with financial software or tools used in the industry.

Full-time
Description
Maui, HI Honolulu, HI Hawaii Finance Manager F&I Finance & Insurance Menu selling Compliance Any brand welcome Pipeline Multiple locations Veterans encouraged to apply $72,000 - $180,000/yr OTE
This is a general application for Finance Manager openings across Swickard's Maui and Honolulu area dealerships. There is no specific position available at this time. Qualified candidates will be contacted as opportunities arise.
IS THIS YOU?
โ€ข You're an experienced Finance Manager with a strong PVR, a clean compliance record, and a menu presentation that earns guest trust rather than resistance
โ€ข You operate with integrity - your deals are structured honestly, your lender relationships are solid, and your documentation is complete and fundable every time
โ€ข You're open to what's next and want to be in conversation with a growing Hawaii automotive group before a specific opening arises
WHO WE ARE
Swickard Auto Group is a hospitality company that happens to sell and service cars. We believe the best guest experiences start with the best employee experiences. That's why we've grown to 40+ rooftops across the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii while maintaining a culture built on one simple idea: do right by people, every time.
We operate dealerships across Maui and Honolulu serving island communities where guest relationships are everything - and the finance office is no exception. When Finance Manager openings arise at any of our Hawaii stores, we want qualified candidates ready to move. If you're an experienced F&I professional in or open to the Hawaii market, we'd like to start the conversation now.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
โ€ข Present and close finance, lease, and protection products using a consultative, menu-based approach that reflects Swickard's hospitality-first standard
โ€ข Structure deals accurately and efficiently - balancing strong PVR with lender compliance and a guest experience that earns long-term loyalty
โ€ข Manage lender relationships across a diverse lending portfolio - ensuring deal flow, funding speed, and lender mix are optimized
โ€ข Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and dealership regulatory requirements - Regulation Z, TILA, FCRA, and applicable Hawaii state requirements
โ€ข Partner with the sales team to ensure clean deal handoffs and a seamless transition to the finance office
โ€ข Maintain deal documentation to the highest standard - every deal fundable, every file complete
โ€ข Achieve penetration and PVR targets across VSC, GAP, maintenance, and appearance products
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
โ€ข 2+ years of Finance Manager experience at a franchised dealership - required
โ€ข Any brand background considered - luxury, import, and domestic F&I experience all valued across our Hawaii portfolio
โ€ข Proven PVR performance and consistent product penetration across a full menu
โ€ข Strong knowledge of lender programs, finance and lease structures, and compliance requirements
โ€ข Reynolds & Reynolds or CDK experience preferred
โ€ข High integrity and zero tolerance for compliance shortcuts - clean deals, clean files, every time
โ€ข Polished, professional communicator - Hawaii island guests are loyal and they remember the finance experience just as much as the sales experience
โ€ข Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
WHAT WE OFFER
โ€ข OTE of $72,000 - $180,000/yr - specific to each store and opening
โ€ข Medical, dental, and vision insurance
โ€ข Life insurance and supplemental coverage options
โ€ข Paid time off and paid holidays
โ€ข Career growth - strong Finance Managers at Swickard grow into F&I director and multi-store finance leadership roles
โ€ข Employee vehicle purchase and service discounts
โ€ข The opportunity to build a high-earning finance career in one of the most unique automotive markets in the country
WHY SWICKARD AUTO GROUP - MAUI & HONOLULU
โ€ข Island guests are among the most loyal in the country - when they trust the finance office, they return for every vehicle purchase and send their family and friends. The F&I manager who earns that trust builds real, lasting earning potential
โ€ข Maui and Honolulu are tight-knit communities where your professional reputation compounds quickly - integrity in the finance office here has a longer tail than almost any mainland market
โ€ข Swickard is one of the fastest-growing dealer groups in the country - ranked Top 5 in North America for reputation in the automotive industry
โ€ข A hospitality-first culture that aligns naturally with Hawaii's values - the finance office should feel like a continuation of the guest experience, not a departure from it
โ€ข Our HEART values - Honor, Engage, Anticipate, Respond, Thank - apply in the finance office just as much as on the showroom floor
โ€ข Leadership that supports a clean, compliant, high-performing finance operation and recognizes the F&I managers who build it
This isn't a posting for a role that's open today - it's an invitation to connect. We operate dealerships across Maui and Honolulu and we proactively build relationships with Finance Manager-caliber professionals so that when an opening arises, we're ready to move. If you're open to a conversation about what's possible in Hawaii with Swickard - we'd like to hear from you.
