Job Title: Underground Electrician

The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Electrician to join our team at a project location 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada. Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman or designate, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing electrical support and expertise to all areas of the underground and surface equipment in a safe and efficient manner to avoid injury to themselves or others, or damage to the equipment, other property or to the environment. Using technical and practical knowledge, this position will follow instruction, utilize manuals, and adhere to the US electrical code, health and safety standards.

Location: 65 Miles outside of Elko, Nevada
Shift: 14-days on / 14-days off rotation

Accommodation: Charter transportation from muster point. Camp and meals provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
  • Major involvement in the installation and maintenance of the underground HV supply, dewatering, ventilation and services system
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
  • Maintain, repair, install and test substations, switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems, automation related systems and other related devices
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
  • General repairs and re-builds of Flygt sump pumps and small pumping stations
  • May install, maintain and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices
  • Document reports detailing work performed, problems diagnosed, pre & post checks and all other required shift paperwork
  • Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client and all other personnel
  • Practice good general housekeeping in the work area and equipment
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience required
  • Possess general computer skills
  • Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas
  • Provide your own basic hand tools
  • Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Preferred; 3-5 years of experience working underground as an Underground Electrician in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in underground mining operations
  • Preferred; Journeyman Electrician certification consideration will be given to 4th year apprentices
  • Preferred; Sandvik development drill maintenance experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations and US Electrical Code
  • Understanding of PLC control systems, an asset
  • Experience with high voltage power distribution systems, 13.8Kv, 600V motor control centers and variable frequency drives, an asset
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential
  • Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Read and understand manuals, schematics, diagrams and blueprints
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Document and communicate shift activities and priorities to the oncoming shift.
  • Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
  • Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
