Job description

At the JB Duke Hotel, we pride ourselves on delivering flawless experiences for every guest, meeting, and event. We are seeking a skilled and reliable Audio/Visual Technician with strong audio expertise to join our A/V team.

This position is responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment to ensure seamless presentations and high-quality event experiences. From meetings and conferences to special events, this role plays an important part in supporting our clients, enhancing the guest experience, and upholding our reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate audio-visual equipment including microphones, projectors, video conferencing systems, sound systems, and lighting for various events and meetings.
  • Collaborate with event coordinators and clients to understand their specific audio-visual requirements and ensure all equipment is configured to meet their needs.
  • Conduct thorough testing of equipment prior to events to ensure optimal functionality and troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise.
  • Provide on-site technical support during events to address any audio-visual challenges promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain and inventory all audio-visual equipment, ensuring it is in excellent working condition and arranging for repairs or replacements as necessary.
  • Stay updated on the latest audio-visual technologies and trends to recommend and implement improvements in the Inn’s audio-visual services.
  • Train and guide other staff members on the basic operation of audio-visual equipment as needed.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures for audio-visual services to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and operational protocols while handling audio-visual equipment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree in audio-visual technology, media production, or a related field is preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 1- 2 years of experience working as an Audio Visual Technician in a hotel, conference center, or similar environment.
  • Proven track record in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment, including projectors, sound systems, and video conferencing tools.
  • Experience in live event production, including sound mixing, lighting, and video recording.
  • Familiarity with the maintenance and repair of AV equipment.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent bending, lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to work on ladders at height of 14’. Walking and kneeling to a significant degree.
  • Due to the nature of the work, proper handling of fragile equipment is required. Many facets of the job involve dealing with electricity, heights, and high temperature equipment which require heightened safety awareness.

  • Strong technical skills with the ability to operate a wide range of audio-visual equipment and related technical environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Customer service orientation with a professional demeanor and the ability to anticipate client needs.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment, and to work in varying environments, including standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
