Job description

Lead Installation Technician

Audio Advice Lead Installation Technicians are responsible for delivering exceptional in-home technology experiences while leading installation teams in the field. Lead Technicians combine advanced technical expertise with strong leadership skills to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the high standards our customers expect from Audio Advice.

This role requires significant hands-on experience with premium audio, video, networking, and smart home systems, along with the ability to mentor and develop other technicians. Successful Lead Technicians set the tone for professionalism on the job site, solve complex technical challenges, communicate effectively with customers and team members, and help grow the capabilities of the installation team around them.

Key ResponsibilitiesAdvanced System Installation & Configuration
  • Install and configure advanced residential and light commercial audio, video, networking, lighting control, and smart home systems

  • Lead complex installations involving equipment racks, distributed audio/video, networking infrastructure, control systems, and automation platforms

  • Perform and oversee equipment mounting, cable pulling, termination, labeling, and rack organization to company standards

  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot systems to ensure reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction

  • Diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues during installation and post-installation support

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead installation teams on project sites while maintaining high standards for workmanship, efficiency, and professionalism

  • Train, mentor, and develop junior technicians through hands-on coaching and daily leadership

  • Help establish a positive, accountable, and team-oriented job site culture

  • Assist technicians in developing technical skills, troubleshooting methods, and customer interaction skills

  • Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure labor resources, timelines, and installation quality expectations are achieved

Customer Experience
  • Serve as the primary on-site technical representative for customers during larger or more complex projects

  • Communicate professionally and confidently with customers regarding project progress, system functionality, and operational guidance

  • Maintain clean, organized, and respectful work environments in customer homes

  • Identify opportunities for improving customer experience and communicate additional project needs or recommendations appropriately

Team & Process Collaboration
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Sales Designers, and other installation team members to execute projects successfully

  • Ensure adherence to company installation standards, safety protocols, and documentation requirements

  • Accurately document work completed, job status, field changes, and technical issues using company systems

  • Assist with project planning, job site readiness reviews, and technical coordination when needed

Continuous Learning & Technical Growth
  • Stay current with evolving technologies, products, and installation best practices in audio, video, networking, and home automation

  • Participate in manufacturer training and pursue advanced technical certifications

  • Demonstrate leadership in adopting and sharing new technical knowledge across the team

QualificationsRequired
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in low-voltage installation, AV integration, smart home systems, or related technical fields

  • Advanced understanding of audio, video, networking, and control system concepts

  • Proven experience leading projects or supervising technicians in the field

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities across multiple technology platforms

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment safely

  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in attics, crawlspaces, and on ladders

Preferred
  • Experience with premium residential integration systems and structured wiring

  • Familiarity with networking infrastructure including routers, switches, VLANs, and Wi-Fi optimization

  • Experience with control and automation platforms such as Control4, Savant, Crestron, or similar systems

  • Manufacturer certifications or industry certifications

  • Experience developing or mentoring technicians in a team environment
