Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Appellate Attorney role based in Austin, TX. The Appellate Attorney will handle civil appellate matters in personal injury and related practice areas, including drafting appellate briefs, motions, and petitions, as well as conducting in-depth legal research. Daily responsibilities include reviewing trial records, identifying appealable issues, developing case strategy, and preparing oral argument outlines and presentations. The role involves collaborating with trial attorneys on preserving error, advising on post-trial motions, and evaluating potential appeals. The attorney will manage deadlines, maintain case files, communicate with clients regarding appellate status, and appear in appellate courts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong appellate advocacy skills, including legal research, brief writing, and oral argument preparation.
  • Experience reviewing trial records, identifying issues for appeal, and drafting motions and post-trial pleadings.
  • Knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and appellate rules, preferably with exposure to personal injury or tort litigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear, persuasive, and well-organized legal writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with trial attorneys, staff, and clients in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license in good standing with the State Bar of Texas (or ability to obtain admission promptly).
  • Prior appellate clerkship or appellate practice experience is strongly preferred; personal injury experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to compassionate, client-centered representation and maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
