What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ATM QA, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ATM QA (Automated Teller Machine Quality Assurance), you need a strong background in software testing, knowledge of ATM operations, and experience with test case design, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with QA automation tools, defect tracking systems, and payment processing protocols such as ISO 8583 is typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are essential soft skills for identifying issues and collaborating with development teams. These skills ensure accurate testing, minimize downtime, and help deliver secure, reliable ATM services to users.

What does an ATM QA do?

An ATM QA (Automated Teller Machine Quality Assurance) professional is responsible for testing and ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of ATM software and hardware systems. Their role involves creating and executing test plans, identifying bugs or vulnerabilities, and verifying that ATM functionality meets regulatory and security standards. ATM QA specialists often collaborate with development teams to resolve issues and help implement new features, ensuring a seamless user experience for customers. They may also be involved in regression, functional, and security testing, both in simulated and live environments.

What is the difference between Atm Qa vs ATM Technician?

AspectAtm QaATM Technician
CredentialsQuality assurance certifications, technical knowledgeTechnical certifications, hardware/software skills
Work EnvironmentOffice, testing labs, on-site inspectionsOn-site at ATM locations, repair sites
Employer & IndustryBanking, financial services, ATM manufacturingBanking, retail, ATM service providers

Atm Qa professionals focus on testing and quality assurance of ATM systems, ensuring functionality and security, often working in labs or offices. ATM Technicians perform repairs and maintenance directly at ATM sites. While both roles require technical knowledge, Atm Qa emphasizes testing protocols, whereas ATM Technicians focus on hardware troubleshooting and repairs.

How does an ATM QA engineer typically collaborate with software developers and operations teams to ensure seamless ATM deployments?

ATM QA engineers work closely with software developers to understand new features, bug fixes, and technical requirements specific to ATM applications. They are often involved in reviewing code changes, creating test cases, and validating new builds in test environments that replicate real-world ATM scenarios. Collaboration with operations teams is also crucial, as QA engineers coordinate to schedule testing windows and ensure smooth rollouts without disrupting customer access to ATMs. This cross-functional teamwork helps identify issues early, reduces downtime, and maintains high service quality for end users.

Job description

SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST - PAYMENTS / CORE BANKING Card Processing Solutions | Remote (Location Restrictions Apply) | Contract
$45-$50/hr
About Our Client
Our client is a publicly traded, U.S.-based financial technology company with decades of experience delivering mission-critical software and payment solutions to banks and credit unions of all sizes. Headquartered in the Midwest with offices and remote teams spanning the country, they serve thousands of financial institutions through a comprehensive suite of core banking platforms, card processing services, digital banking tools, and fraud management solutions. Widely regarded as one of the most trusted names in fintech infrastructure, they are committed to empowering community and mid-tier financial institutions with enterprise-grade technology and white-glove support.
Job Description
As a Senior Business Analyst on the Card Processing Solutions team, you will serve as the connective tissue across the entire SDLC - from front-end requirements gathering all the way through handoff to development and QA. You'll be the person in the room who can talk shop with engineers, translate complexity for stakeholders, and keep multi-team, multi-platform projects moving in the right direction. If you thrive at the intersection of technical depth and business clarity, this role was built for you.
You'll work directly with financial institution customers to capture system requirements, define functional specs, and drive alignment across development and QA teams. Day-to-day, that means facilitating UAT sessions, mapping ISO 8583 message flows from the switch, and partnering with ETL and integration teams to ensure downstream systems get exactly what they need. You'll also support jBridge integrations and EFT transaction workflows - comfort in the payments weeds is a must.
This is a highly cross-functional role. Expect to collaborate with 10-15 engineering teams spread across 5-7 development platforms, which means your communication skills matter just as much as your technical chops. You'll report into senior product leadership and may occasionally mentor less experienced analysts as the team continues to scale.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Partner with financial institution customers to elicit, document, and validate system requirements from concept through production release
  • Author business requirements documents, functional specifications, and system documentation to a high standard
  • Facilitate UAT sessions, including ISO 8583 message validation from the switch and ETL handoffs to downstream systems
  • Support jBridge integrations and EFT transaction switching, routing, and settlement workflows
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and development/QA teams, translating requirements into actionable technical guidance
  • Participate in business process re-design efforts and assess how system enhancements can improve workflow and operational efficiency
  • Perform application, system, and regression testing as needed
  • Collaborate across 5-7 development platforms and 10-15 engineering teams simultaneously
  • Drive multiple parallel work streams without dropping the ball
  • Contribute to end-user and project management documentation
  • Work with industry research groups to anticipate product trends and inform roadmap decisions
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior analysts on the team

Required Experience & Skills
  • 6+ years of experience as a business or systems analyst - no exceptions
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, use case development, and functional/technical specification writing
  • Payment processing industry experience is required
  • Hands-on experience with both Waterfall and Agile development methodologies
  • Working knowledge of ISO 8583 message specification and EFT transaction messaging
  • Familiarity with EFT transaction switching, routing, high-speed transaction processing, and related constraints
  • Ability to manage highly complex, multi-platform projects spanning many engineering teams simultaneously
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - equally fluent with a dev team and a bank executive
  • Strong collaborative instincts and comfort operating in a matrixed, team-first environment

Nice-to-Haves
  • Knowledge of debit and credit issuer processing
  • Familiarity with JHA products and services
  • Data mapping experience
  • ATM messaging, fraud strategy, dispute processing, or EFT billing and settlement exposure
  • Core banking or core credit union domain knowledge
  • Experience in a fast-moving fintech or enterprise software environment

Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Pay & Compensation
  • Pay rate: $45-$50/hr
  • 100% remote - no commute, no relocation required
  • Contract engagement with a well-established, publicly traded fintech firm
  • Exposure to high-visibility, large-scale payment platform projects

Remote - Location Requirements
This is a fully remote role, but candidates must reside within approximately 70 miles of one of the following office locations:
  • Allen, TX (preferred)
  • Lenexa, KS (preferred)
  • Springfield, MO (preferred)
  • Monett, MO (preferred)
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Louisville, KY
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Cedar Falls, IA
