ATM Systems Engineer
Location: Must be able to work onsite 3-4 days in the Valparaiso, Indiana office
The ATM Systems Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and support of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) infrastructure and associated systems. This role ensures high availability, security, performance, and compliance of ATM networks, transaction processing systems, and supporting technologies. The engineer works closely with banking operations, infrastructure teams, vendors, and application support teams to deliver reliable ATM services to customers.
Essential Functions:
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain ATM hardware, software platforms, operating systems, middleware, and transaction processing applications.
  • Monitor ATM network performance and system health to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Coordinate ATM upgrades, relocations, and decommissioning activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve ATM software, communication, transaction-related, and peripheral incidents, including card readers, cash dispensers, receipt printers, and PIN pads.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Support production incidents and participate in on-call support rotations.
  • Manage secure connectivity between ATMs and payment switches.
  • Implement and maintain ATM security controls, encryption standards, key management, certificate management, authentication mechanisms, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to PCI-DSS, banking regulations, and security best practices.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards and alerts; analyze transaction performance and ATM availability metrics.
  • Perform capacity planning, recommend infrastructure improvements, and proactively identify and mitigate system risks.
  • Collaborate with ATM vendors, managed service providers, financial network partners, product teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate software releases, patch deployments, hardware upgrades, vendor support cases, and service-level agreements.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, disaster recovery plans, and support audit and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Ensure change management processes are followed for system updates and releases.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting ATM systems, banking infrastructure, or payment systems.
  • Experience with ATM platforms such as NCR, Diebold Nixdorf, Hyosung, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, and enterprise networking concepts.
  • Experience with transaction processing systems and payment networks.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in banking, financial services, or payment processing environments.
  • Knowledge of ATM middleware solutions and switching platforms.
  • Familiarity with ISO 8583 messaging standards.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prognosis and Gasper.
  • Experience with simulator tools such as Paragon and T3.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity controls and PCI-DSS requirements.
