We are seeking Roadway Construction Inspectors to join our Quality Management and Construction Inspection practice team in Duluth, Georgia for upcoming projects. Come join us!

This is an advanced journey to advanced level inspector position technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of roadway and structure construction acceptance inspection and materials sampling and testing verification. Employee supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large complex construction projects. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct independent standardize or moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Inspect and test materials such as soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete for quality and proper mix.
  • Evaluate pavement for correct spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.
  • Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to approved plans and specifications.
  • Monitor structural components and operations, including foundation excavation, placement of culverts, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
  • Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control devices.
  • Perform complex calculations and field measurements for contract documentation and pay item verification.
  • Maintain accurate and complete project documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management and two (2) years of progressive transportation technician experience; or 2-year Degree in in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of progressive transportation technician experience; or High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of progressive transportation technician experience; or An equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • a. GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
    • b. GDOT WECS.
    • c .GDOT Field Concrete Technician or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification

Technical requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of specifications and standards, acceptable construction practices, materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction and engineering.
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, inspection procedures, and all other documents associated with the project.
  • Thorough knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations related to highway/transportation engineering.

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • Shall possess a valid Georgia Driver's license.
  • Shall abide by Atlas health and safety policies and procedures.
