$18.16 - $21.25

This position performs routine to complex maintenance, preparation, and construction of athletic fields in accordance with defined work guidelines, operating standards, and specific instructions.This position is part time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in field maintenance and construction projects, to include mowing, trimming, re-sodding, and re-grading, irrigation installation, aerating, and topdressing of athletic fields.
  • Sets up game and practice fields for special events; performs painting, gameday field preparation, and field equipment placement as appropriate.
  • Maintains inventories of turf products and supplies, to include fertilizers, pesticides, paint, and tools for athletic fields.
  • Maintains athletic field irrigation systems, to include sprinkler heads, valves, and controllers.
  • Applies herbicides and pesticides as needed to athletic fields
  • Operates and maintains grounds equipment, to include mowers, spreaders, sprayers, trimmers, and painting equipment used for athletic fields.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Performs general maintenance and trash removal tasks on athletic fields, as appropriate.
  • Operates both independently and as a member of an athletic field maintenance team.
  • In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
  • During an emergency or crisis situation, this position will may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Florida driver's license with clean driving record
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of advanced athletic field re-sodding, re-grading aerating, and topdressing procedures, techniques, and standards.
  • Ability to install, calibrate, operate, and maintain athletic field irrigation systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of various standards regarding the setup and marking of athletic fields for games.
  • Knowledge of athletic field painting and turf preparation methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the safe handling, application, and storage of fertilizers, pesticides, and related athletic turf chemicals and materials.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to set up, calibrate, operate a wide range of standard and specialized athletic field construction and maintenance equipment.

Employees may be required to perform duties, including the employee's normal work function or other emergency support functions as deemed necessary by the County, as assigned before, during, and after hazardous weather or state of local emergency.

This position is assigned a regular work schedule; however, flexibility is required, and assigned work hours may be modified as necessary to support departmental operations, including weekend events, special functions, and other operational requirements.
