The Athena Integration & Solution Architect is responsible for analyzing user, business, clinical, and system requirements and designing, documenting, testing, modifying, and implementing computer systems, applications, interfaces, APIs, and data integration solutions that securely and reliably exchange data across athenaOne, Athena Health Marketplace applications, third-party vendors, and enterprise systems. This role applies advanced systems analysis and application architecture expertise to develop technical specifications, design integration patterns, evaluate system performance, and direct the configuration and modification of computer systems using HL7, FHIR, RESTful APIs, and other healthcare interoperability standards.

Responsibilities Healthcare Data Integration Architecture
  • Analyze current and future-state computer system capabilities, integration requirements, and workflow needs to establish architecture standards and technical specifications for Athena and other practice management solutions.
  • Design, document, and implement future-state computer system architectures and integration approaches for existing and new technology ecosystems.
  • Perform systems analysis with product, clinical, operational, and technology stakeholders to define integration requirements and maintain the interoperability roadmap for athenaOne, Marketplace applications, and third‑party systems.
  • Translate organizational strategy, clinical priorities, and user requirements into executable technical designs for integrations, automation, application configuration, and data enablement capabilities.
  • Evaluate Athena Health features, Marketplace offerings, APIs, and interoperability standards to determine required system design, configuration, testing, and implementation approaches.
  • Design scalable, maintainable integration solutions that support system reliability, performance, security, and long‑term platform modification needs.
  • Identify automation opportunities and design the technical modifications, application configurations, and integration logic needed to improve system efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Design and govern end-to‑end healthcare data integration architectures using HL7 v2, FHIR, and RESTful APIs.
  • Define integration patterns for real‑time, near‑real‑time, and batch data exchange across Athena Health, Marketplace apps, and third‑party systems.
  • Ensure consistent handling of patient identity, encounters, clinical events, orders, results, and claims data.
Athena Health, Marketplace & Third‑Party Integrations
  • Architect integrations using Athena Health APIs, Marketplace‑supported interfaces, and standards‑based messaging.
  • Design and oversee HL7‑based integrations for clinical and operational workflows where applicable.
  • Lead FHIR‑based integration strategies for modern interoperability, data access, and third‑party enablement to improve patient and clinician experience
  • Evaluate when to use native Athena interfaces vs. Marketplace apps vs. external API/FHIR integrations to deliver scalable solutions
  • Ensure integrations are resilient, observable, and support retry, reconciliation, and auditing.
Product Roadmap & Strategy
  • Develop and maintain technical roadmaps for integration, interoperability, application architecture, and data platform capabilities based on systems analysis, user requirements, and platform performance needs.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of computer systems, application architecture, healthcare interoperability standards, and data exchange methods to design solutions that meet business, clinical, regulatory, security, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate vendor platforms, EMR capabilities, and healthcare technology ecosystems from a technical architecture perspective, including interface options, API functionality, interoperability constraints, system performance, and implementation feasibility.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience performing systems analysis, application architecture, integration design, technical documentation, testing, implementation, and modification of computer systems and enterprise applications.
  • Strong understanding of application lifecycle management, software implementation methods, systems governance frameworks, security requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing and modifying large‑scale application portfolios, integration platforms, and data exchange solutions to support enterprise technology requirements.
  • Experience designing, configuring, testing, and implementing automation technologies, application workflows, and system integrations in a business or healthcare technology environment.
  • In‑depth knowledge of application architecture, interoperability standards, integration engines, APIs, data structures, analytics platforms, and system performance considerations.

  • Understanding of healthcare‑specific challenges and opportunities related to technology adoption and integration.
  • Strong experience managing SaaS solutions, including vendor selection, integration, and performance management.
  • Ability to assess vendor‑provided systems, integration capabilities, interface specifications, and platform performance to determine technical fit and implementation approach.
