Job description

Summary: Organizes and communicates the various pertinent patient information to members of the specialty team.  Performs administrative, clerical support and accommodative services to assist the clinical staff.  Prepares requisitions ordering laboratory tests, x-ray exams, blood tests. Performs post case data entry in the Meditech system. Schedules and coordinates surgery dates between patients, physicians, and hospital. Schedules other non-surgical related diagnostic testing when necessary; inclusive of cardiac, pulmonary and medical clearances; which require direct communication as the clearances have to be coordinated to occur prior to surgery date.  

Education: High School diploma; medical assistant, scheduling certification preferred.

Licensure:   None

Experience:   Minimum of 3yrs relevant work experience in the medical field.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, fax machine, and computer.
  • Skill in dealing with interpersonal issues and customer relations.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at once with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to organize and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Knowledge working with EMR/EHR, Meditech, and Athena preferred
  • Medical terminology with emphasis in orthopedics, podiatry and pain management
  • Must be familiar with CPT coding.
  • Must be able to handle many schedules at one time.
  • Organizational skills are necessary.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements:

Physical ability including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking and reaching.  Physical ability involves lifting more than 10 lbs.
