The Position

In this position, you will provide strategic direction and leadership for all corporate communications and business area communications for the organization, including internal and external corporate communications, media relations, crisis management, executive communications, digital and social media, and corporate brand and reputation management. Manages the agencies of record – both creative and event production. Works directly with the President & CEO of Roche Diagnostics North America and other C-suite executives to align communications strategy and goals to overall business strategy. Develops and enforces overall corporate brand strategy. Owns organizational change communications strategy and execution to ensure consistency of messaging and minimize external interest. Works with the Diagnostics Marketing organization to align messaging and strategy across all platforms. Develops, implements and coordinates public relations strategies for the NAM region with the goal of establishing and maintaining a favorable image of the company with news media, investors, potential customers, employees and the public. Edits, and oversees distribution of internal and external communication materials that may include the following: website, newsletters, ads and intranet content.

This role leads corporate social responsibility strategy and oversees and manages the charitable giving program. Partners with business area leadership including marketing, sales, and P&C in order to project the desired corporate message and maintain global corporate brand guidelines in both external and internal mediums. Provides the main interface with public relations agencies and acts as the corporate spokesperson to the media and general public at large. Provides strategic counsel, media training and media communications in support of all Roche Diagnostic Corporation (RDC) business areas.

As a direct report to the President & CEO of Roche Diagnostics North America and a member of the United States Leadership Team and the Global Diagnostics Communications Leadership Team. Participates with other leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives. May develop corporate communications policies and authorize their implementation. Has in-depth knowledge of the company, business strategies and functional area. Regularly interacts with executives both internal and external and/or major customers for the purpose of influencing and negotiating. Provides direction to subordinate managers and/or high-level individual contributors and typically has responsibility for a broad functional area with multiple departments, product groups or service areas. This role is also responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions.

The Opportunity
  • Oversees and shapes the strategic communication planning of RDC-US internal and external communications, with the goal of enhancing organizational and business value.
  • Partners with executive management, marketing, sales, advertising, and People and Culture (P&C) to plan, develop, implement and evaluate internal and external communications. Acts as primary communications advisor to the President and CEO.
  • Leads a team that consists of: internal communications, public relations, business area communications, community relations, digital/social media, and graphic designers.
  • In support of RDC-US strategic agenda, serves as media spokesperson, including talking to the community, general and trade media and general public.
  • Serves on the global diagnostics communications leadership team.
  • Responsible for issues and crisis management communications for RDC-US, including handling crisis communications tactics and training executives in issue and crisis communications.
  • Selects, oversees and manages PR agencies.
  • Leads and sets up all executive communications programs, including, but not limited to, internal and external appearances, speeches and presentations.
  • Partnering with P&C, drives and builds a high performance culture through effective employee engagement and communication. Sets effective internal communications strategy and agenda, including: events, communications, campaigns for key initiatives and training.
  • Has the responsibility for overseeing internal creative agencies and external agency partners.
  • Has overall responsibility for meetings and conventions for the company, including large-scale sales meetings and corporate presence at congresses and trade shows.
  • Has overall responsibility for corporate communications, including internal, executive, PR/media relations, issues management, etc.
  • Develops, leads and directs community relations & charitable contribution initiatives.
  • Designs, edits and oversees distribution of internal and external communications.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Who you are
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field with 10-15 years communications, marketing communications or related business experience.
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience managing managers and overseeing broad functional areas, with a proven track record of influencing C-suite stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proven ability in working with and advising C-suite executives.
  • Proven track record of building high-performing teams and leading them to deliver strong results.
  • Solid corporate and business knowledge.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, including motivating others, team building, and credibility.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer relations and building partnerships at all levels within an organization.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indianapolis, IN is $196,000- $257,250. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
