Job description

Are you an Electrical Engineer looking to support an exciting Navy mission in our new state-of-the-art labs? Are you seeking long term career growth and a company that values work life balance?

Job Summary: SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Electrical Engineer who will effectively support a fast-paced work environment with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Middleton, RI. You will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring a variety of electrical designs from the early concept stage all the way through fabrication.  SAIC is looking for someone to support the PTF program as the local Middletown office supports automated test equipment design.  The job will entail a host of different projects supporting a host of Navy Underwater technical projects.

Location: The work will be at both 28 Jacome Way, Middletown, RI, and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport.

Work Schedules: Flexible work schedule options are also available. If desired, engineers may partake in SAIC's 9/80 schedule to have every other Friday off or a 4/10 schedule if desired.

More on the role: Our team is integral in developing present and future leading edge USN weapons systems capabilities. You will need broad engineering skillsets, well-developed work habits, and an eagerness and enthusiasm for solving engineering challenges.  Your projects will include the design, documentation and testing of a wide array of electrical and electronic systems in a host of different naval systems.  The designer may be working with power electronics, power systems, control systems, CCA design, signal processing, light software development, mixed signal design, and cable design and construction.  The role does involve planning projects out with program analysts to generate estimates (ROM's), schedule, and tasking for the associate projects at hand.

Job Duties:

  • You will work with customers to evaluate the requested tasking to generate approximate rough order magnitude (ROM) estimates by generating budgets, schedules, and providing status updates.
  • Perform either independently or within a small team (2-4) to solve a variety of complex problem and lead the team to appropriate solutions for the customer.
  • You will design and test electronic systems for embedded underwater applications, custom data acquisition systems, and automated test hardware for land-based testing of naval systems.  
  • You will develop and execute test plans for new designs and document your results.  
  • You will design and document systems and circuits in Altiums, Pads, or ORCAD.
  • You will have the necessary tools at your disposal to allow you to be effective and be efficient in your job.  
  • Candidates must demonstrate a history of excelling at multiple concurrent challenges and an eagerness and aptitude for learning new concepts.
  • Candidate will work in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment with other groups of engineers, logisticians, technicians, and draftsman to ensure the design meets customer requirements.
  • You will generate specifications, requirements, schematics, bill of materials, mechanical drawings.
  • Create/Review well documented notes of design changes to maintain version control of drawings.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience in design engineering.
  • Electronic design in the area of test equipment, power electronics, amplifiers, filtering, signal conditioning, and/or high-speed digital.
  • Schematic entry and board layout using a schematic capture tool and layout tool.
  • Experience with hands on prototyping skills soldering circuits, making cables, debugging circuits, and creating benchtop setups.
  • Hands on lab experience using oscilloscopes, function generators, network analyzers, signal analyzers, DMM's, power supplies, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand a large complex electrical and mechanical system along with their associated system level TDP.
  • Hands on troubleshooting skills using test equipment to help isolate problems and a strong ability to generate solutions in a complex integrated system.
  • Must be self-directed in tasking and willing to undertake challenges outside the scope of everyday tasking and qualified experience.
  • Microsoft Suite Experience (Office, Outlook, Teams, Visio, Sharepoint, ETC).
  • Modeling circuits in a spice engine.

CLEARANCE REQUIRMENT:

  • Must be able to initially obtain an Interim Secret Clearance and then obtain and hold an Active Secret Clearance for the duration of work on the contract.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • PCB design with Altium, Orcad, PADS.
  • LTSpice Modeling Experience.
  • Experience creating technical data package quality drawings for electronic systems.
  • Experience working with Military systems and associated MIL-STD design processes.
