Job description

Associate Technical Product Manager
Location: Logan, UT
Job Summary:
The Associate Technical Product Manager (APM) assists with the development, technical support and lifecycle management of rugged computers and associated accessories across targeted markets. This role partners closely with Senior Leadership, Product Managers, Technical Support, Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Marketing to ensure tablet products meet customer needs, business goals, and quality standards.
The APM is responsible for executing product initiatives, managing requirements, analyzing customer and market data, and helping drive successful product launches and sustaining activities.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Manage the product life cycle, plan strategically about the product positioning, roadmap, and future market expansion as well as execute tactical activities related to product development and sales, such as product accessories, packaging, branding, etc.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback, usage data, and support trends
  • Conduct competitive analysis on tablet hardware, ecosystems, and accessories
  • Participate in customer interviews, field visits, and usability testing
  • Help identify unmet customer needs and emerging market opportunities
  • Assist in scope definition, trade‑off analysis, and feature prioritization
  • Gain a deep understanding of your assigned market segments.
  • Support creation of product messaging, positioning, and internal training materials
  • Identify and prioritize critical customer needs for current and future products, using industry experience
  • In collaboration with internal and external resources assist with generating compelling market requirements documents (MRD) for new product development.
  • Perform market research and competitive analysis, identify our competitive advantage and key differentiators, and then work with marketing to successfully position and message the product to the market.
  • Work with the project manager and project engineer to validate and revise the MRD and provide input and approval of the product technical specification (PTS).
  • Participate in product design reviews and project phase signoffs, giving approval to proceed when appropriate.
  • Responsible for generating the Product Validation Test (PVT) that evaluates how well the product satisfies critical customer needs identified in the MRD.
Works with the Sales amp; Marketing team to develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all areas of the company to execute that plan and help them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer.
Qualified candidates should have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, computer science or a related technical field or 4+ years of experience in a technical field or as a product manager managing technical products.
  • Basic computer skills required including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and an ability to interact with MRP and CRM systems.
  • Experience in the rugged mobile computing and/or field data collection industry and a unique blend of business and technical savvy is strongly desired.
  • A general understanding of computer hardware architecture and functionality
  • Experience with the latest product management and product development methodologies is also strongly desired.
  • Experience with tablet computers, mobile devices, or hardware products
  • Understanding of Windows, Android, or embedded systems
  • Understanding of hardware concepts such as displays, batteries, CPUs, connectivity, and accessories
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with many different audiences (customers, sales and marketing team, engineering, management, etc.).
  • A high level of creativity to regularly generate innovative solutions to market problems.
Working Hours and Conditions:
This job requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. May participate in the 9/80 work schedule, having every other Friday off. Normal time off is given for holidays. Weekend work may be required due to traveling and/or tradeshows, and work-required travel is usually less than 40 nights per year. The interactive nature and cross-discipline communications demand of the position will require the position to be located at the head office in Logan, Utah. Must be able to see, speak, type, and sit for extended periods in an office environment.
