Job description

DMC, an employee-owned engineering consulting firm in BC, is growing, and we're looking for a Dam Safety Engineer who's ready to help us keep the momentum moving. Our expanding team works across British Columbia, delivering practical, highquality engineering grounded in strong fundamentals and a culture built on collaboration and grounded problem solving. With more than 60 years of collective experience in our corner, we bring technical depth and a mentoring culture that keeps people learning, growing, and stepping confidently into bigger roles.

We are seeking a candidate that is proficient in project management, hydrologic/watershed analysis and modelling, hydraulic structure modelling, and design. The candidate would ideally have client liaison experience and be proficient in preparing technical memos and reports.

The successful candidate's duties will include participating in undertaking dam safety reviews, annual dam safety inspections, dam breach, inundation and consequence classification assessments, preparation of dam emergency plans, preparation of design of appurtenant hydraulic structures, and hydrology and numerical flow modelling. Travel throughout British Columbia and Yukon may be required in this position.

DMC's Infrastructure Group supports a wide range of projects, including linear infrastructure development, commercial and industrial structures, natural hazard mitigation, dam engineering, and marine facilities. Our clients include provincial agencies, municipalities, utilities, First Nation communities, architects, developers, and contractors throughout BC. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Water Resource Engineering (minimum)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Guidelines, Associated Technical Bulletins, and the BC Dam Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of standard computer hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software packages such as RMC-BestFit, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, FLO-2D
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Previous project management experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Strong work ethic with a drive to excel and deliver highquality work
  • Effective communicator with excellent oral and written skills
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment

Supplementary Skills:

  • Previous experience participating in dam safety reviews
  • Familiarity with the BC Extreme Flood Project guidance documents
  • Familiarity with the EGBC Professional Practice Guideline Legislated Dam Safety Reviews in BC
  • Familiarity with geotechnical and/or structural aspects of dam safety
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation and regulations including the Riparian Area Regulation and the Water Sustainability Act
  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design, and construction
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and the BC Supplement to TAC Geometric Design Guide
  • Business development skills
