Position Description
The preference for the Associate Dean for Research is to be based on the Lubbock campus, with regular on-campus presence expected. This position also requires travel to other TTUHSC campuses for research collaboration and faculty development.
Academic Rank to Associate Professor/Professor will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship (ADR) provides leadership and has primary responsibility for establishing and advancing a visionary agenda for the School of Nursing's research and scholarly activities. The ADR leads the development and evaluation of research and scholarly activities. The ADR, acting in collaboration with the dean of the school, represents the school within TTUHSC and in the broader community on matters related to research and scholarly activities, and cultivates partnerships and opportunities. The ADR works closely with other school leaders to provide coordinated leadership and to integrate research and scholarship with TTUHSC to facilitate both faculty and student research. The ADR leads exemplary mentoring, progressive federal and other external grant acquisition, and the expansion of research programs across disciplines to advance TTUHSC SON's national ranking and global influence.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding scientist, educator, and leader with the intellectual stature and national and international visibility to ensure the success of the School of Nursing and the achievement of the research mission. Desirable candidates will be creative scholars and leaders who demonstrate excellence in establishing and leading a collaborative environment and have an academic career with a sustained, consistent record of research excellence, progressive grantmanship, and high-impact scholarly contributions. The candidate should have exemplary communication skills, proven leadership and managerial abilities, outstanding academic accomplishments, and a distinguished record of advancing the research and career development of faculty, students, and emerging scholars.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries from regulatory agencies, faculty, staff, students, professional colleagues, and community partners.
  • Proven ability to author and publish scholarly articles, reports, and presentations that meet academic and professional standards.
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals at all levels, ranging from children to members of the board of directors and legislators.

Major/Essential Functions
TTUHSC
  • Displays a scholarly orientation to the responsibilities of a university faculty member.
  • Partners with the Office of the TTUHSC Executive Vice-President for Research and Innovation to advance nursing research and facilitate the implementation of studies.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to advance large-scale, integrative research that addresses healthcare challenges.
  • Serves as a member of the TTUHSC Institutional Review Board.
  • Serves as a member of the TTUHSC Research Council.
  • Serves as a member of the TTUHSC Clinical Research Institute.
School of Nursing
  • Provides leadership for the SON's research and scholarly activities.
  • Provides efficient and effective support and mentorship to faculty in their development of research plans, grant acquisition, manuscript publication, IRB preparation, and other scholarly activities.
  • Prepares the research department's annual budgets, business plans, and research and scholarship reports.
  • Collaborates with SON leadership team to develop strategic plans to elevate the SON's research reputation and position the School as a nationally ranked and globally recognized leader in research.
  • Maintains an appropriate faculty teaching load, with accommodation for administrative responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates experience in teaching, curriculum development, and innovative instructional methodologies.
  • Oversees the Center of Excellence for Nursing Research, Collaboration, and Innovation.
  • Oversees the Center of Excellence for Evidence-Based Practice.
  • Oversees the research-related development endowment.

Community & Clinical Partners
  • Leads and sustains interdisciplinary collaborations in developing and conducting research across the TTUHSC service area and beyond.
  • Expands research funding portfolios across federal, foundation, industry, and community-based sources.
  • Supports initiatives that ensure the sustainability of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC).
  • Demonstrates community and professional leadership and networking skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervisory responsibility for the School of Nursing Statistician and the Research Administrator.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior history of progressive leadership responsibility in research administration and a strong record of mentoring and developing faculty, students, and emerging investigators in research and scholarship.
  • Displayed evidence of extensive recent and ongoing external funding and high-impact scholarship and expertise in research design, methodology, and advanced data analysis.
  • Possessed knowledge of accreditation and practice standards relevant to advancing the SON's academic and research reputation.

Pay Statement

Required Qualifications
  • Graduated with a research-focused doctoral degree (PhD) from accredited universities, with a minimum of Associate Professor rank.

Visa Information
