Job description

Position Overview:

  • Providing accurate, erectable, pre-engineered metal building solutions in a self-directed sales role.
  • Advanced design and detailing working knowledge with ability to translate into MBS.
  • Advanced proficiency of MBS software, both standalone MBS and MBS Projects.
  • Ability to review and understand information in request for proposals including plans and specifications.
  • Follow standard industry and Ascent standard practices in developing quotations.
  • Ability to read and understand the various building codes. The application of codes and loads as it applies to project design.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Model, design and estimate complex building structures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Read and understand architectural and structural drawings.
  • Interpret specifications and identify exclusions or qualifications as required.
  • Thoroughly review drawings and specifications and produce Request for Information from the District Manager or Builder.
  • Meet with sales teams, customers, internal technical teams, architects, and all relevant parties of prospective projects in person or via online meeting software.
  • Prepare preliminary scope drawings from MBS for use by sales teams, customers and internal customers within the company.
  • Provide technical guidance, monitoring adherence to customer requirements.
  • Obtain vendor buy-outs. Review buyout material proposals and clarify with outside vendors when required.
  • Have a complete understanding of the scope prepared for each proposal.
  • Comfortable with composing contractual language to clearly define the scope of work.
  • Generate a complete Quotation for presentation to the customer. The Quotation will include the entire scope of work.
  • Exclusions and qualifications to specific items not provided are part of the Quotation and/or Purchase Order documents.
  • Exhibits a sense of urgency to produce timely and accurate quotations.
  • Update project changes and modify quotes as required.
  • Maintains and fosters a positive attitude concerning your position and the company when interacting with both customers and other associates.
  • Initiates and promotes teamwork within the company.
  • Ability to travel when required for company meetings, training, and presentation as required.

Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge and experience with pre-engineered building designs.
  • Extensive experience estimating highly complex pre-engineered steel structures.
  • Experience with MBS design software.
  • Experience with AutoCad/BricsCad for preliminary drawings.
  • Able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches for various configurations of building structural framing.
  • Effective clear communicator; in both verbally and written formats.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to utilize provided systems, maintaining crucial project backup files as required by the company.


Education and Experience:

  • BS Degree in engineering is preferred for sales estimator candidates (Professional Engineer is a plus, but not a requirement).
  • BS or Associate’s degree in engineering, building science, or engineering technology is preferred for estimators.
  • Equivalent industry experience.
