AEO is hiring a Staff Engineer to join our Stores Engineering team which owns point of sale and backroom store associates applications. We are looking for a strong technologist who will lead the architecture and can solve difficult technical problems and dive deep into the details necessary to achieve it. The candidate must be a role model for other engineers, mentoring and raising the technical aptitude of the entire team. We are seeking a seasoned engineer with a proven history delivering store edge enterprise solutions. You will be required to work cooperatively with other teams to ensure the right overall architecture, best solutions in and using an agile SDLC.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect, design, code, build, and integrate software with stores hardware peripherals like scanner, printer, etc. Provide in depth knowledge of wired and wireless / bluetooth architecture, network topology.
  • Monitor/observe and build dashboards using Splunk, Grafana etc. Set up appropriate alerts, smart and proactive monitoring of the entire Stores ecosystem.
  • Troubleshoot and determine root cause and fix issues in a 24/7 environment.
  • Lead the technical vision and direction of the system driven by data and metrics, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs.
  • Proactively evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools to improve the system's performance, reliability and scalability.
  • Mentor and coach other engineers on technical skills, design principles, code reviews, etc.
  • Leverage AI capabilities in day to day activities and look for ways to improve productivity for the entire team.


What you'll bring:

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills with an ability to right-level conversations for the audience.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, operating, scaling, and evolving distributed systems and high-volume transaction applications in a 24/7 environment.
  • 6+ years of experience in building cloud based Point of Sale systems including hardware peripheral integration.
  • 8+ years of experience in Java (with Spring Boot or similar frameworks), Postgres, SQL or equivalent DB technologies.
  • 5+ years of experience on Cloud Native technologies on AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a full stack developer owning implementation, testing, building CICD pipelines, delivery and monitoring.
  • Experience in building other Store applications like replenishment, store inventory management, RFID integration, etc.
  • Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive level stakeholders or customers.
  • 2+ experience in GCP and/or Kubernetes specific technologies.
  • Experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts and initiatives.
  • Experience implementing and upgrading POS solutions like JumpMind, XStore.
  • Strong architecture and design skills with a track record of architecting and delivering distributed, cloud-based microservices, event-driven architectures and RESTful API's.
