Job description

Senior Associate, Project Manager
At Capital One, models are the engines that drive our most salient business decisions. Capital One's Model Risk Office (MROf) governs and maintains these engines to meet regulatory standards by defining the model risk management (MRM) framework and model governance practices for the company. At the cornerstone of our model governance framework are our Divisional Model Risk Officers (DMROs) and their teams.
As a Senior Associate, Project Manager at Capital One, you will support our well-managed divisions by ensuring our DMRO teams have insight into their operations, validation plans, and horizontal requests. Further, you will drive risk reduction efforts by managing a litany of important processes and controls. The role requires a well-rounded individual who is comfortable adjusting their approach to meet unique needs across multiple stakeholders within a complex organization. This role is ideal for someone with strong interpersonal skills, an unrelenting drive to 'get things done', and has a 'can do' attitude.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Meeting on a regular basis with stakeholders to ensure that they are well-managed and have line of sight into their operations, project plans, and horizontal requests
  • Utilizing a variety of business intelligence (Quicksite, Tableau), project management (JIRA), and analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets) to support their stakeholders
  • Solving problems analytically - understanding how to join disparate data sets in an Excel or Google Sheets format to solve problems and convey a solution
  • Exhibiting a demonstrated track record of project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage tasks and related expectations
  • Exhibiting outstanding influencing skills to effectively drive project / program efforts - Demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment.
  • Displaying a passion for coaching and developing delivery teams through leadership
  • Having excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform and influence outcomes
  • Having demonstrated experience in various project management / problem solving methodologies (waterfall, agile, design thinking, etc.)
  • Demonstrating the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities using multiple data-driven approaches

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of Project Management experience
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
  • At least 2 years of experience working with and applying the standards set forth in supervisory letters guiding model risk management, to include OCC Bulletin 2011-12 and FRB SR 11-7
  • At least 2 years of model risk management experience in a regulated financial institution
  • At least 3 years of experience using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, with a proficiency in joining disparate data sets to analyze and solve challenges
  • Project Management Professional certification (PMP)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience
  • 2+ years of experience using JIRA or Github for Project Management
  • 1+ years of JIRA Project Administrator experience
  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma certification, or other Project Management Certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $96,500 - $110,100 for Sr. Project Manager
Richmond, VA: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr. Project Manager
Riverwoods, IL: $87,700 - $100,100 for Sr. Project Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
