Job description

We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

We are currently seeking a motivated Platform Specialist to join the Mission Systems Engineering team at Hermeus! 
Responsibilities
  • Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Ground Control Stations.  
  • Install, configure, and maintain flight critical IT systems, communication tools, and mission-enhancing hardware/software.  
  • Install, configure, and maintain pilot-in-the-loop cockpits for Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs).  
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mission systems.  
  • Design, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, Access Points (wireless), and VPNs. 
  • Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability. 
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems. 
  • Implement and maintain network security, including access controls, intrusion detection systems, and threat prevention. 
  • Manage and administer network services such as DNS, DHCP, and IP address management (IPAM). 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for network configurations, processes, and procedures. 
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to support infrastructure projects and resolve complex technical issues. 
  • Be willing and able to support the deployed platform (on a rotation basis) during weekends, off hours.  
  • Willing and able to travel for 1-2 weeks at a time during test operations/campaigns.  
  • Stay up to date with emerging network technologies, best practices, and NIST guidelines. 
Basic Qualifications
  • Associates degree in information technology/systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related STEM field.  
  • 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar role (Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer, Cybersecurity Engineer, Software Engineer).  
  • Proficient in Linux. 
  • Proficient in basic electronics maintenance and repair.  
  • Proficient in the maintenance/termination serial port connectors (RS232, etc.), and CAT5/6.  
  • Proficient in basic electronics packaging (design, assembly, cable routing, cooling, etc.).  
  • Proficiency working at all layers of the OSI network model.  
  • Proficiency designing and maintaining layer 2 networks.  
  • Comfortable reading and maintaining low voltage wiring diagrams. 
  • Experience creating, explaining, and maintaining network architectures, network topology diagrams, and other interface diagrams/specifications.  
  • Ability and desire to travel for 1-2 weeks at a time to work on-location with the Ground Control Station at various military bases and airports. 
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and network hardware. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and associated Office suite of tools: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.  
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience designing, integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex aerospace platforms' I.T. infrastructure.  
  • Proficiency in low level network programming (socket programming), design, and troubleshooting.  
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (AWS, Azure). 
  • Familiarity with Palo Alto and Juniper network devices. 
  • Background in government or cleared contractor networks. 
  • Experience with FedRAMP authorized cloud solutions (AWS Govcloud, Azure GCC-H, etc..) is a plus. 
  • Experience with network cybersecurity tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, AWS network security tools, Microsoft Defender, etc. 
  • Palo Alto Certification (PCCET, PCNSA, PCNSE, etc.). 
  • Juniper Certification (JNCIS, JNCIP, etc.). 
  • SANs Certification (GSEC, GCIA, GMON, GDSA, etc.). 
  • CompTIA Certification (Network+, Security +, CASP+, etc.). 
$105,750 - $129,250 a year
