Job description

The Level 2 Network Engineer is an intermediate-level role responsible for supporting and maintaining day-to-day network operations across corporate, retail, and cloud environments. This position focuses on resolving escalated incidents, performing advanced troubleshooting, and independently executing network deployments and change activities. The role supports connectivity, stability, availability, and performance across Paradies Lagardère's infrastructure while following established standards, escalation paths, and change control processes. The Level 2 Network Engineer also serves as a technical resource for mentoring Level 1 engineers and improving operational documentation and monitoring.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Resolve Tier 2 network incidents across multiple locations, including complex LAN/WAN, wireless, and VPN-related issues.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using structured methods (packet analysis, path testing, performance validation, root cause identification).

  • Manage and support network monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., FortiManager, PRTG) including alert tuning and operational improvements.

  • Independently configure, deploy, and maintain Fortinet firewalls, switches, and access points based on approved standards and templates.

  • Support SD-WAN troubleshooting and circuit failover validation across retail and corporate environments.

  • Support FortiNAC operations by assisting with device onboarding, endpoint profiling, and troubleshooting access issues, including coordination with FortiGate/FortiSwitch/FortiAP policies to ensure compliant network connectivity across corporate and retail environments.

  • Partner with vendors and service providers to coordinate troubleshooting, dispatches, circuit turn-ups, and issue resolution.

  • Support network projects including store openings, refresh initiatives, circuit migrations, and network modernization activities.

  • Maintain and improve network documentation including diagrams, device inventory, configuration standards, and SOPs.

  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and execute approved changes with proper validation and documentation.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Level 1 engineers, including escalation coaching and troubleshooting support.

  • Assist in identifying recurring issues and recommend proactive improvements to reduce outages and improve stability.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, and wireless concepts.

  • Experience troubleshooting multi-site networks and resolving issues involving ISP handoffs, edge devices, and upstream dependencies.

  • Working knowledge of firewall concepts including policies, NAT, VPN fundamentals, and security best practices.

  • Working knowledge of FortiNAC concepts including endpoint profiling, network visibility, and policy-based access control for wired and wireless devices, with the ability to support onboarding and troubleshooting under established standards.

  • Ability to document technical work clearly and provide detailed ticket updates, root cause notes, and change outcomes.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with field teams, vendors, and internal IT teams.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and service-impacting incidents.

  • Ability to travel to retail locations as needed (optional/occasional based on business needs).

  • Ability to participate in after-hours/on-call support as scheduled.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

  • 2-5 years of experience in an IT networking or network support role.

  • Experience supporting multi-site or retail environments preferred.

  • Strong exposure to Fortinet technologies (FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, FortiNAC) or similar enterprise networking platforms.

  • Professional certifications preferred (two or more): CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Fortinet NSE certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs (network equipment, boxes, peripherals).

  • Ability to bend, crouch, and work in small network closets or under counters when required.
