Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of large-scale data center infrastructure systems. This role provides technical leadership for mechanical and piping systems, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and operational objectives. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, construction teams, and customers to deliver reliable, efficient, and cost-effective mechanical solutions for complex data center projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and approve mechanical engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Support the design, construction, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning of data center infrastructure systems.
  • Review engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and engineering best practices.
  • Prepare technical requisitions for mechanical systems, equipment, and components.
  • Review vendor quotations and provide technical recommendations to procurement teams.
  • Develop and review engineering deliverables including equipment lists, valve lists, piping line lists, material take-offs, bills of materials, equipment data sheets, and engineering calculations.
  • Perform and review piping system design, layout, routing, insulation design, and equipment integration.
  • Conduct piping stress and flexibility analyses using applicable design codes and project-specific design criteria.
  • Develop or review project-specific design basis documents.
  • Provide piping load information and engineering support to structural engineering teams.
  • Support engineering change management processes and design modifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, planning meetings, and technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support manufacturing operations by resolving technical issues and ensuring design intent is maintained throughout production.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and troubleshoot field installation issues.
  • Conduct site visits and participate in customer meetings as required.
  • Select and specify coatings, painting systems, supports, fasteners, mounting systems, and mechanical components.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality, reliability, and schedule commitments.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to engineering processes and product designs.
  • Assist project and discipline engineers with code interpretation and technical guidance.
  • Support permitting activities and interactions with regulatory authorities when required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Degrees in Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related disciplines may be considered with relevant data center infrastructure experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • 3-10 years of mechanical design and engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting data center infrastructure, modular systems, packaged equipment, or complex mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design, piping systems, and piping stress analysis.
  • Strong understanding of fire suppression systems and mechanical infrastructure systems.
  • Experience with equipment layout, modular package design, and systems integration.
  • Ability to develop engineering sketches, drawings, and design concepts.
  • Strong understanding of chillers, cooling towers, evaporative cooling systems, pumps, vessels, valves, heat exchangers, fan systems, acoustics, and mechanical control systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and their impact on mechanical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience supporting fast-track design-build projects preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure and rapidly changing environments.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Additional engineering certifications relevant to mechanical systems, piping design, or data center infrastructure are a plus.

Work Experience

  • 3-10 years of mechanical engineering experience required.
  • Experience in data center infrastructure design preferred.

  • Experience with subsea manifold systems, modular process equipment, or integrated mechanical packages is highly desirable.

Technical Skills
