Position Details
Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Support the delivery of courses in a competency-based education (CBE) format for new CBE-based Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences programs at Sam Houston State University. CBE courses are fully online and designed to allow students to progress by demonstrating mastery of clearly defined competencies.
Faculty would begin by supporting a CBE section of Texas Government (POLS 2306) in Fall 2026 and then support a CBE section of American Government (POLS 2305) when it rolls out later in the academic year. CBE faculty serve as instructors of record and are responsible for evaluating student work, providing timely feedback, and supporting student progression.
This position is structured as a 9-month academic-year appointment with an anticipated 3-month summer appointment to support the continuous delivery of the competency-based education program. Faculty are expected to provide instruction across multiple entry points throughout the calendar year, including summer, to ensure consistent support for student learning and progression.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Master's degree in political science or related field preferred; will also consider those that meet SACSCOC credentialing requirement of a Master's degree plus 18-graduate credits in political science.
Experience Required for the Position
Experience teaching higher-ed level courses preferred
Experience with online learning environments (e.g., Blackboard) preferred
Experience with competency-based education or outcomes-based assessment in higher education preferred
Other Requirements for the Position
Strong written communication and feedback skills
