Job description

Proof of the Pudding is the proud and exclusive food & beverage partner for Zoo Atlanta's Special Events, where elegant spaces meet wild places. Zoo Atlanta not only is home to a wide variety of animals; it is also home to some of the most stylish and unique event spaces in Atlanta.
The culinary team at Zoo Atlanta is seeking an innovative, experienced, and motivated Pastry Chef to support the production of scratch made creative creations for events. The Pastry Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to obtain event information, expectations, and details to effectively create desserts, pastries, and bakery items that complement event menus.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for supporting the Pastry and Bakery aspects of the many, often coinciding, events at Zoo Alanta.
  • Execution and innovation of Zoo Atlanta's pastry department
  • Creating products of highest level of food quality and presentation
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in high volume while adhering to a specific timeframe
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen/food service areas.
  • Planning, understanding, and communicating event needs to staff and associates.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of creative menu items that adhere to the Proof of the Pudding standard.
  • Have understanding and the willingness to work inter-departmentally to streamline events.
  • This position may require some travel (<10%)- assisting in other POP locations in accordance to business demands

Performs other related duties, as required.
Education and/or Experience
  • 2+ years in a similar role, or formal training in Pastry Arts
  • Must have impeccable integrity for the business, the community, and the Proof of the Pudding Team.
  • Exhibit cooking knowledge, and food-handling skills consistent with modern training and want to learn more.
  • ServSafe certified or is available to receive training.

  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner.

Work Environment
This position will involve much time in the kitchen working with typical equipment including knives, electrical mixers, ovens, hot pans, and more. Event attendance will be on an as needed basis and may be indoors, outdoors, or in temporary structures. This position is stationed from Zoo Atlanta but may travel to other venues within the region.
Uniform Requirements
Adherence to Company Uniform Requirements outlined in the Associate Handbook, uniform requirements outlined in your orientation guidelines.
Non-slip shoes are necessary.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of moving and traveling through event spaces and kitchens
  • Bending, lifting, scooping, and carrying miscellaneous equipment and food items
  • Manual dexterity to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
  • Pushing speed racks and carrying sheet pans
  • Must be able to lift up-to 50 pounds at times.
