About the Role:

As an Associate Engineer, you will provide entry-level engineering/technical expertise on electric transmission design projects for high-voltage (HV) overhead utility systems.

This position prepares guidance for line routing, survey coordination, PLS-CADD modeling, structure design, foundation design, clearance checks, plan/profile development, material specification and procurement, constructability evaluations, work order package preparation, permitting, vendor/subcontractor coordination and construction support.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Conduct engineering related studies
  • Learn and understand design criteria
  • Build design models using the PLS software suite
  • Develop and analyze foundation designs (e.g. FAD, FD6, APile, LPile)
  • Spot structures and evaluate clearance and structural utilization in PLS-CADD
  • Evaluate and provide commentary on design alternatives
  • Run reports in PLS-CADD (e.g. Structure Checks, Stringing Charts, etc.)
  • Compose work packages, release letters and more
  • Produce accurate estimates of man-hours required and completion dates for tasks
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks for multiple projects

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required)
  • EI/EIT certification (preferred)
  • 1+ years of related transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry (preferred)
  • Experience using PLS-CADD for designing transmission lines (preferred)
  • Experience with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE and ACI
  • Understanding of basic practices for researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at all times.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied, and deadline-driven work environment
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills)
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
